As a reminder, this newsletter highlights events hosted by student organizations and select Reed departments during the next two weeks. Please be sure to check out events.reed.edu for other events organized by academic departments.

Transfer and Non-Traditional Student Union Movie Ticket Giveaways

Every other week, the Transfer and Non-Traditional Student Union will be giving away tickets and transportation to local movie theaters. Winners can use the tickets whenever they want! Note: You must be a transfer or non-traditional student to win. Each winner will receive two tickets, redeemable at Regal Cinemas. We will randomly select three winners each week.

Stylish Succulent Workshop

Create a vivid arrangement of colorful succulents for the tabletop or desk. Succulents are dynamic plants and easy to grow.

Did you know that every plant has a succulent cousin? Even the onion has a family member that is succulent! In this workshop, you will learn about the superpowers of succulents and why we love to grow them.

Hum tutors will be available in the residence hall lobbies to help with last minute writing assistance. They are available to help with all steps of the writing process, so bring your laptop and your questions!

Reedies will be taking over Mox Boarding House in downtown Portland for a day of board games and fun. Alongside the Association of Reed Gamers (ARG), play with friends and use Mox's extensive board game library! Food and transportation will be provided.

Always wanted to go backpacking, but didn't know where to get started? Join the backpack co-op managers and other Reedies at the Outdoors Center to learn how to pack a backpack for a trip. We will also go over what is needed for a backpacking trip so you can have the information to plan a trip yourself!

Black and African Mental Health Wellness Forum

Black at Reed, the mental health, mental support, and mental well-being Workshop and Forum for Black and African students. Last semester, we did "What It Means To Be Black." This semester, we are Back and Black at Reed, a forum for students who are a part of the Black and African diaspora. This semester we reclaim our space; we take up space and are unapologetic. Come meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. Let us get through this rigorous school year together.

Nature-Based Mindfulness Experiences 

We will offer a variety of nature-based mindfulness experiences that can be modified depending on attendee preferences and accessibility needs. These practices will either be stationary or mindful walking experiences.  The focus of these practices will be to strengthen your relationship with the land and nature and to transition from “thinking” to “sensing” and from “doing” to “being” which will help facilitate nonjudgmental present-moment focus, connection, self-reflection, and centering. We will meet weekly on Fridays.

Ecotherapy Workshop 

This workshop is skills based and experiential. We will be exploring mindfulness skills and practicing mindfulness in nature-settings to strengthen your relationship with nature and the land, as well as identify metaphors in nature to facilitate self-reflection. Themes of connection and reciprocity will be explored.
 
This is a four-part series, so please plan to attend all four sessions. Pre-registration is required and closes on 10/3. Once you have been registered, we will email you materials and information. All students are welcome.

Headed into your Math class and need a review of logarithms or exponents to help you remember and become familiar with these concepts? Come to this workshop to review logarithms, exponents and their applications. We will practice the skills and work on problems where these concepts may show up so that you are prepared when these skills are needed in your class.

Weekly peer support group

Mental Health at Reed is a peer-led support group for Reed students experiencing mental health problems. At meetings, we check in about how we’re doing and chat about what it’s like to experience mental health problems at Reed, how to cope, accessing resources on and off campus, and more. Our goal is to support one another by listening to others' experiences and sharing our own. All students are welcome, regardless of whether they have a diagnosed disorder or identify as someone with a mental illness.

A weekly práctica that provides a safe and welcoming space for Reedies to dance Argentine tango. No experience is necessary! Experienced and inexperienced students practice with and teach each other. The club functions as both a supplement to the Reed PE Tango course as well as a standalone organization that facilitates further learning at Reed and off-campus sites.

The Gryphon Group of Alcoholics Anonymous is an open meeting that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8:15pm via Zoom and in person on Sundays from 4:30-6pm. We welcome all who seek to know more about alcoholism. We share our experience, strength and hope. Gryphon was founded by Reed students in 1982. As an open meeting, we invite all who seek answers to addictions.
