Deepwater Pipeline Pre-commissioning campaign succesfully completed

August 2016, IKM Testing AS successfully completed a pre-commissioning campaign for Subsea 7 on Statoil’s Astaa Hansteen, using a Thermoplastic Composite Pipe. The campaign involved 19 deployments to 1300 meter water depth, pumping methanol,  seawater and nitrogen at various pressures.

The system consists of a powered reel, containing a 1600m long, 2.5" ID TCP Downline, a tensioner system and overboarding chute, positioned on Subsea 7’s Seven Viking vessel. Deployment, operation, pumping and recovery have been performed in an efficient manner as a joint effort between all parties on board.  “Using the TCP Downline has proven to be a success” confirms Odd Reidar Boye, Technical Manager Subsea IKM Testing. “Both offshore and onshore we experienced the following:
  • the product’s low weight, the ease of handling and the external pressure resistance capability are important benefits for pipeline pre-commissioning operations in deepwater
  • the low weight and robustness of the product allows quick deployments/recoveries, reducing the time needed per deployment.”
This TCP Downline used by IKM Testing is one of the  five downlines delivered by Airborne Oil & Gas thus far. The track record of the TCP Downline spans more than 65 deployments, to a maximum of 2140 meter water depth. With this, Airborne Oil & Gas continues to expand its track record and experience as the leader in TCP.

Airborne Oil & Gas secures € 23 million funding

World’s largest oil company joins shareholder base
Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV) joins the shareholder base with an investment of € 10 million.

SAEV is the corporate venturing arm of Saudi Arabian Oil Company, the world’s largest oil company that accounts for approximately 12% of global oil production.

The funds raised will enable Airborne Oil & Gas to further focus on growing the business, including product development, qualification, expanding its manufacturing capacity and increasing its sales force.

Qualification TCP for Total’s deepwater jumper spools

Airborne Oil & Gas is pleased to announce the start of a project to qualify Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) for a deepwater jumper spool application for French operator Total. The non-corrosive and spoolable Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) is Airborne Oil & Gas’ answer to today’s industry call for cost effective spools, well jumpers, flowline and riser solutions to deal with corrosive fluid conditions and deep water environments: TCP Flowlines, Jumpers and Risers are flexible, corrosion free, light weight and have high strength and thus enable a significant reduction in total installed cost.  For the deepwater spool application, the TCP offers the possibility to save time and cost due to the inherent flexibility of the product allowing installation without high-precision subsea metrology, as is the case for rigid steel spools.

The Airborne Oil & Gas’ TCP that will be qualified on this project targets deep water applications. Client Total foresees the first application by the company to be for water injection well jumpers: “The possibility with TCP to handle large deflections, the ability to cut-to-length and terminate the pipe at location and the subsequent installation with small vessels, make a compelling business case for TCP jumpers. We estimate we can achieve considerable cost savings by using TCP jumpers” says Frédéric Garnaud, R&D Deep Offshore Program Manager with Total. Read more
