Buckets For Jesus Newsletter 5

First Things First

Dear Friends and Loved Ones,

I pray this sharing finds you well and your loved ones. It’s been over a month since my last sharing, I must say, I have missed you all!

“FOLLOW ME.” Luke 5:27

We praise God for the Buckets for Jesus team’s safe return a week ago from its’ 17th mission trip to serve the poorest of the poor and help our suffering brothers in typhoon stricken Philippines. After 6 years of doing missions in this poor country beset by natural calamities, we found it at times an uphill battle about how to help the victims there. But the Lord opened our eyes to focus on our apostolic mission and reach out to the neediest, share His love and empower the poor with His Word. This was our priority from day one, and will always be… first things first.

“DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE”…Matthew 6:25

Empowered by the Holy Spirit leading us, our first stop was in Tacloban City where we were blessed to attend the Papal mass on 17th Jan and came up close to him despite the ongoing typhoon. Tears of joy and sorrows, mixed emotions of those who lost 6000 loved ones among the half a million attendees at the airport tarmac where Yolanda first landed. The hours of waiting in the rain was all worth it when he celebrated the Eucharist, delivered a touching homily, a fulfilment of his promise to be there, his priority was to be present with our suffering brothers…first things first!

WHAT GOOD WILL IT BE FOR A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD, YET FORFEITS HIS SOUL?” Mathew 16:26

The rest of the mission was almost a dream (despite the usual hiccups) in Cebu, Bogo and Manila. What a joy it always brings when we extend a hand to the needy. Indeed, ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:35) and what a privilege to meet our Lord in the eyes of the poor. The Lord was so faithful to supply our needs, by sending more workers in the fields to make it exactly 12, never a dull moment! We saw amazing miracles of multiplication and transformations on the hearts each mission…when our priorities changed from self to others…first things first.

“IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE.” Acts 20:35

Join me in reflecting on where is our priority today. Are we investing our time in what is heavenly valuable? Or do we have mixed up priorities, spending our time trying to enjoy life but miss out on the joy of the Lord as we spend all our time in sustaining ourselves? Food, clothes and other externals are good to have but have no significance to Him. We treat life as if the wrapping is more important than the gift. There is an urgent need to refocus our priorities and recognize what is valuable, we must stop doing and start being for God’s glory…for He is first things first.

“SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM…AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AS WELL.” Matthew 6:33

Please take time to view this BFJ sharing/newsletter, stories on Shoeboxes for Jesus, Containers for Jesus and Housing for Jesus for your update. Thank you for your prayers and support all these years. You know who you are… Without our Almighty God using you as a partner and instrument of His mercy with BFJ, we wouldn’t have been able to scale these mountains in the mission fields. For that, we thank God for you and our faith journeying together… indeed you have set your priorities right, first things first.

BFJ MISSIONS IN TACLOBAN

Our first stop on our mission was in Tacloban and for our first day, we collected our passes for the Papal Mass in the Archdiocese's Chancery. Special thanks to Nene Delim, Fr Patrick Lim and Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB for making this possible.

It's amazing how a statue of Jesus Christ in Palo withstood the 330 kilometers per hour winds from Yolanda and a nearby church have been restored from ruins. Tacloban is rising up...and the Papal visit lifted up the spirits of Taclobanons and all Filipinos alike.

Glory to God!

SHOEBOXES IN TACLOBAN

Prayers answered, Shoeboxes for Jesus has finally reached in Tacloban, despite logistic problems and blessed Yolanda street children and orphans…the future of our faith. One day, the Lord will raise up a new army out of these kids.

TACLOBAN PAPAL MASS
What a big surprise, thanks to endorsement of Archbishop's office in Perth and Nene Delim's help, we were allocated VIP seats and got up closed to Pope Francis. Moved to tears by his homily to the tragedies the people suffered here.
Despite the rain, it was worth waiting for hours to receive his blessings first hand. God is amazing! Glory to Him!
GOD BLESS THE STREET CHILDREN!

God bless the hundreds of Street Children in Talisay Cebu and the BFJ & YWAM Cebu missionaries who came to bless them with Kids bibles, snack, clothes and toys. It has been 6 years since we started adopting these kids living under the bridge in Mananga and seeing them grow in faith is such a joy!

BFJ IN BOGO CEBU MISSIONS

Yolanda Village's recipients of housing for the homeless were blessed by Buckets for Jesus with basic provisions, clothes, blankets and Bibles. The need here is so great, people are living below poverty (one meal a day.)

Help us help the helpless. Contact us if you would like to help or donate in kind or give a gift that will last a lifetime. A home for homeless

LATEST ON ADOPT A FAMILY HOUSING APPEAL

As the song goes, "Now that I have seen, I am responsible" Brooke Fraser

Seeing the sufferings here moved BFJ with compassion to campaign to raise and put a roof above 100 homeless. Thank you for responding with God's love, you know who you are...Proverbs 3:27 And for those who have the heart to help, now is the time, please do not delay, the homeless are waiting...please contact us if this spoke in your heart.

MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR CEBU
Our visit to the Missionaries of the Poor whether in Pasil or in Talisay or Manila, never fail to touch our hearts to the core. We are inspired by the selfless and unconditional love they give to destitute physically and mentally challenged children and aged men and women. We donated food, clothes, distributed Tagalog and Cebuano Bibles and snacks to these centres and simply spent time with them. May God protect all MOPs in the world and their charges.

BFJ AT TALISAY PRISON

"When I was in prison, you came to visit me."

Together with YWAM Cebu, we met face to face for the 6th year and 17th mission 280 of our brothers who are mostly unloved, unwanted and forgotten in prison who are called inmates as most of them have not been tried or proven guitly.

Pray for justice and humane treatment for these men and women and incarceration to be shortened for good behaviour. They need all the help, help us help these prisons.

Matthew 25:35-37

PACKING FOR MANILA MISSIONS

What a joy to serve the Lord in the least among us, the poorest of the poor, the marginalized and the least among us. Help us pray for more workers in the fields and multiply our resources. What little we brought also brought joy to our mission visits. Each night we packed buckets or gifts to bless the next mission ready to bless the needy children, old folks, prisoners or unwed mothers.

MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR MANILA
LUNCH WITH ALTAR BOYS AND MOTHERS

Thank you Fr Jose Aguas and your beautiful parishioners of St Ezekiel Parish in Caloocan City for hosting BFJ for lunch and giving us the privilege to bless your kids and mothers.

Till we meet again. God bless!
URSULINE SISTERS
If there was a place we look forward to visit in Manila, that would be the Ursuline Sisters in Pasig, Manila, where the happiest nuns in the world live! Their hospitality and warm countenance is always welcoming from the nuns to their Mother Superior. What a joy to see them happily working with both privileged and underprivileged children while they teach unwed mothers how to gain skills and earn a decent living.

SPANOLA SISTERS FEEDING PROGRAM
Great to be back after 3 years at the Spanola Sisters’ ministry for indigent children without birth certificates born out of wedlock. They help the mothers and fathers get married in church, to be legalised so that the children can receive free education and support. About 12 sisters and volunteers feed these 30 to 50  kids in 2 batches a week and educate those who are out of school. BFJ supports their feeding and education program and also distributed buckets or gifts to the children.
SFJs AT BOYSTOWN ORPHANAGE AND GIRLS HOME
Words cant express the joy of a fulfillment of BFJ dream to bless each orphan a Shoebox for Jesus, all 350 orphans here age 2 to 17.

May God bless them all, the carers and head masters. Big thanks to all who donated SFJs in Singapore and Australia, a record 2000 SFJs were collected last Christmas. Glory to God!
MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY CEBU & MANILA
We always save the best for last, every mission’s last stop before we close the trip ends in this beautiful centre oozing with joy and love despite the children are physically, mentally and spiritually challenged. The loving hands of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity makes sure each of the 50 children at the centre are pampered enough with love despite they’ve been rejected, forgotten and abandoned. We have to tear ourselves away from this place, God’s presence is there everywhere…
