Buckets For Jesus Newsletter 5
First Things First
Dear Friends and Loved Ones,
I pray this sharing finds you well and your loved ones. It’s been over a month since my last sharing, I must say, I have missed you all!
“FOLLOW ME.” Luke 5:27
We praise God for the Buckets for Jesus team’s safe return a week ago from its’ 17th mission trip to serve the poorest of the poor and help our suffering brothers in typhoon stricken Philippines. After 6 years of doing missions in this poor country beset by natural calamities, we found it at times an uphill battle about how to help the victims there. But the Lord opened our eyes to focus on our apostolic mission and reach out to the neediest, share His love and empower the poor with His Word. This was our priority from day one, and will always be… first things first.
“DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE”…Matthew 6:25
Empowered by the Holy Spirit leading us, our first stop was in Tacloban City where we were blessed to attend the Papal mass on 17th Jan and came up close to him despite the ongoing typhoon. Tears of joy and sorrows, mixed emotions of those who lost 6000 loved ones among the half a million attendees at the airport tarmac where Yolanda first landed. The hours of waiting in the rain was all worth it when he celebrated the Eucharist, delivered a touching homily, a fulfilment of his promise to be there, his priority was to be present with our suffering brothers…first things first!
“WHAT GOOD WILL IT BE FOR A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD, YET FORFEITS HIS SOUL?” Mathew 16:26
The rest of the mission was almost a dream (despite the usual hiccups) in Cebu, Bogo and Manila. What a joy it always brings when we extend a hand to the needy. Indeed, ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:35) and what a privilege to meet our Lord in the eyes of the poor. The Lord was so faithful to supply our needs, by sending more workers in the fields to make it exactly 12, never a dull moment! We saw amazing miracles of multiplication and transformations on the hearts each mission…when our priorities changed from self to others…first things first.
“IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE.” Acts 20:35
Join me in reflecting on where is our priority today. Are we investing our time in what is heavenly valuable? Or do we have mixed up priorities, spending our time trying to enjoy life but miss out on the joy of the Lord as we spend all our time in sustaining ourselves? Food, clothes and other externals are good to have but have no significance to Him. We treat life as if the wrapping is more important than the gift. There is an urgent need to refocus our priorities and recognize what is valuable, we must stop doing and start being for God’s glory…for He is first things first.
“SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM…AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AS WELL.” Matthew 6:33
Please take time to view this BFJ sharing/newsletter, stories on Shoeboxes for Jesus, Containers for Jesus and Housing for Jesus for your update. Thank you for your prayers and support all these years. You know who you are… Without our Almighty God using you as a partner and instrument of His mercy with BFJ, we wouldn’t have been able to scale these mountains in the mission fields. For that, we thank God for you and our faith journeying together… indeed you have set your priorities right, first things first.
