In April, I reconnected with fellow Berklee grad, Maureen Murphy, in Nashville. Mauren took a break from her singing duties with the Zac Brown band to add her singularly soulful voice to a few my songs, along with those of equally soulful Kim Morrison (from Girl in the Band). I was jumping up and down with excitement when she was tracking.

It is a magical process to take something that only existed in your head, convey it to a bunch of other musicians, and then have them bring it forth with more beauty than you could have imagined. One example of this process is in the videos I am including below from our first tracking session. The first video is of me and session leader, Mark Prentice (at piano) playing a sparse demo of my song, "Light of Day" as the musicians listen for the first time and read down the "Nashville Numbers" chart. (I'm holding the phone so you can't see me). The second video is of the very same song a few minutes later after we tracked it with me in vocal booth, and them in the tracking room.
I have one more Nashville trip in June before we have all the elements needed to start mixing. My fearless Indiegogo supporters will receive the first pre-released mixes and I will keep you all updated when it is available to order, or perhaps pre-order.
I have been terribly remiss in focussing on website rebuild since I can so easily post on other media, but that is long overdue and on the docket for the coming months.
I stop in my tracks whenever I hear real talent in the subway or on a street corner. Social experiments have shown that many people, if the presentation is not handed to them on a silver platter of large media approval, walk by and hardly notice. The passing of Prince last month shook all of us. I learned of his death an hour before our April Nashville tracking session. We lit a candle for him in the studio as we played. In the subsequent deluge of Facebook outpouring, I came across the video below, and it spoke to what made him so great. Some people need to be told by outside, pre-ordained authorities that something is good before they will like it. I know that everyone on this list has the discernment to know what resonates with him or her authentically regardless of outside bias. And that is why I so deeply value your loyalty and patience with me as I make this album that I am more excited about than ever.
I hope you are as excited as I am, and that you will follow my social media links, and share my music with friends and family!
Heartfelt thanks for joining me on this journey!
