YSRP has Launched Full Time!
A special thank you from the Directors

It has been an exciting few months since we launched the YSRP this past summer! Our mission is to support young people charged in the adult criminal justice system before, during, and after incarceration. We believe that kids are kids regardless of the crime they are charged with committing. We seek to remind the justice system of this, by implementing a support plan that emphasizes the importance of reentry planning at the very beginning of the child's contact with the courts. Through this effort, our hope is to infuse humanity into a system that too often dehumanizes people. Read more about our mission and three-step model here. As a 10 year old sits in an adult jail in our home state of Pennsylvania (and is given crayons and video games in his cell) we are even more resolute in our belief that we must change the way that children are treated by our justice system. Thank you for joining us on the journey to make that happen.

Coming Next: Pilot Program Launch
Accepting Cases Starting December 2014 - Your referrals are welcome!

YSRP will provide mitgation and reentry planning support to up to five young people in its pilot program. Through publications, in-person presentations, and meetings, we have been connecting with attorneys and service providers in Philadelphia in order to identify our first cases and build our network of supports for the young people we work with. YSRP also was invited to partner with the Federation of Neighborhood Centers in Philadelphia to  join  their reentry collective impact initiative (or “Philly PRISM”), which will help inform our pilot.

YSRP in the News
Program spotlighted by the Nonprofit Quarterly and the Legal Intelligencer

YSRP’s innovative model was featured in articles in the national Nonprofit Quarterly and in the Philadelphia-based Legal Intelligencer.  The Nonprofit Quarterly highlighted the timeliness of YSRP’s nuanced efforts, by noting that “Through their aid to defense attorneys and support for families and juveniles who are serving sentences on adult charges, this unique and pioneering nonprofit fills a gap in the criminal justice system where it seems no other organization currently provides service.” You can find both articles on our website.
