Welcome to another edition of warikoo Wanderings.
In this edition, I thank my stars that my parents didn't name me, I share my top 5 books from the last 4 years, tell you what was special about the quote last time and ask you one of my favorite questions.
Let's get started!

I AM SO GLAD MY PARENTS DIDN'T GET TO DO THIS
Not too many people know this about me.
When I was born, I was named ASHNEER (what the f!)
You see, my parents' names are Ashok and Neerja.
So they were clearly very excited at the birth of their first child. And in that excitement, what they think was a moment of unparalleled creativity, they named me ASHNEER!
Can you imagine what my life would have turned out to be?
I would have lived my entire life mocked for my name, and people would absolutely call me Ashleel (meaning vulgar, in Hindi).
For god sake, I went to a boys' school!
So how did I come to be called Ankur?
Well, legend has it that I went to a play school called South Town (am not sure why I shared the name. It is a useless piece of information. And then I actually wrote a sentence on it. And now the sentence has become too long. And I fear that you will be laughing at how random and unstructured I could be. And this sentence is just not ending. And c'mon, it started with sharing a random piece of information that my play school was called South Town.
So I came back from school one day and told my mom,
"From today, my name is Ankur"
Now, I know you don't believe me here.
But believe my mom at least.
This is her story, not mine.
She told me that this happened.
And I am guessing she heard the name Ankur and realized, wow, that is decades better than the ASHNEER shit we came up with. Thank god he is so smart!
And I have come to be known as Ankur since then.
PS: For all those who are thinking, "haha, your parents could have also named you NEERASH"
HA HA HA
I have heard the joke before.
You are late!
MY TOP BOOKS FROM THE LAST 4 YEARS
Every year, I make a list of the Top 10 Books I read that year. Have been doing it since 2016.
I went back to that list and picked the top ones that I have loved.
Here they are (1st 5 recommendations):
Sapiens - a masterpiece. Such books are written once a decade, I think
The Hard Thing About Hard Things - a must read for every leader, manager, entrepreneur
Better Under Pressure - this book saved me during a very hard time in 2016
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance - this book could very well be titled Grit: The story of warikoo :)
Tools of Titans - such an incredible book, mapping the habits of successful people!
Will share the next 5 recommendations in the next edition of warikoo Wanderings.
AN EXPERIMENT THIS MONTH
I am taking a break all of this month.
No external engagements
No calls with people I do not know (I have 5-7 calls every week, from people who write in to me)
Just me, my reading, my writing, my content creation, my thinking.
And the first few days have been joyous.
Heck, I even slept in the afternoon yesterday :))
It is something I wish everyone gets to do every 5/10 years. Take an entire month off and just think.
The reason now as against earlier is because I am turning 40 this month and this is a good time to pause and think of what I want from the next 10 years.
My 30's have been incredible. So so so much more than I expected.
And I think a large part of it was not setting any goal or aims, instead setting habits.
So the key question is - what habits do I want to set for the next 10 years?
WHAT WAS SPECIAL ABOUT THE QUOTE LAST WEEK
I shared this quote last week
The purpose of relationships is not to make you happy. It's to teach you how to be happy alone.
And had asked all of you, what was special about this quote?
100+ people wrote in with their responses.
And all of them were interpretations of the quote and what was special to them about this quote.
But here is the big reason why this quote is special.
A computer wrote it
This quote was generated by GPT-3 (google it), which was fed my historic content and then it came up with this quote, as an extension of what I could possibly write!
In fact, last week, ALL my tweets were generated by a computer!
QUESTION FOR YOU
I have always enjoyed asking this question
What do you think matters more?
The course that you study?
The institute from where you study?
Let me know :)
Until next Friday,
DO EPIC SHIT
