Tips for Rotational Grazing on Organic Dairy Farms

Providing dairy cattle with enough high quality forage is key to ensure milk production and cow health on any dairy farm.  For organic dairy farms, which rely on grazed pasture to provide a significant amount of this forage, a well-managed grazing system is the starting point to providing this high quality forage.  This article will raise some questions that graziers should consider and discuss some important points when either setting-up or managing an existing grazing system, at the end of the article links to additional resources can be found. Growing PA's Organic Farms Conference- Dec. 9 & 10!

You are invited to attend the 1st annual educational farm conference focused on advanced organic production practices.  In-depth presentations on current organic farming issues will be provided by speakers from universities with accomplished organic research programs, successful organic farmers and farm industry representatives dedicated to organic production. 

Sessions will include topics on animal health, dairy, pastured livestock, fruits, vegetables, soil health, pest and weed control.  The intent of this conference is to annually support PA’s organic farms with information and discussion on the best of the available organic farming practices. Click here for the full conference agenda.

Speakers include Dr. Hue Karreman, Rodale Institute Veterinarian; Jeff Moyer, Rodale Institute Farm Director; Leslie Zuck, Pennsylvania Certified Organic Executive Director; and more!
