Shabbat Mishpatim

February 14, 2015

If you lend money to any of My people, even to the poor, you shall not be as a creditor; neither shall you impose interest. Exodus 22:24

The Shabbat Mishpatim Torah portion in the Book of Exodus asks us “not to exact interest from the needy.” It is specifically this Biblical injunction that has guided the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington in helping our community to remain self-supporting, with self-respect.

The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington asks that all congregations and havurot in the DC metropolitan area designate Shabbat Mishpatim 2015 as Hebrew Free Loan Shabbat. We are happy to supply study texts, handouts and other materials for you to place in your bulletins or to have available. If you would like a HFLAGW member to address your congregation, please contact Deborah Reichmann, Executive Director HFLAGW at
