Please share with your administration, teachers, other school staff, and school community council. There is something for everyone!
This newsletter was put together by the Saskatchewan Health Authority Regina Area Health Promotion Department of Population and Public Health Services - based on feedback received from school stakeholders about the desired format and content. Each month we will highlight up-to-date health information, resources, programs, training, and initiatives available and coming up near your school. Each newsletter will also include a feature topic. French resources will be highlighted by 'FR.'

The New Canada's Food Guide is here!
|
|
The new food guide has been released and is ready for use in English and French. It was developed based on the best and latest evidence as well as extensive public consultations with a variety of different stakeholder groups. Perhaps one of the biggest changes is that Instead of focusing on food groups, number of servings and serving sizes, the Guide is now a mobile-responsive web application with new resources and tools, including at-a-glance information on what to eat and actionable advice on how to eat.
Use the release of the new food guide as an opportunity to:
- Explore it
- Discuss the similarities and differences between the old and the new. See: A History of Canada’s Food Guide
- Delve deeper into the how of healthy eating such as being mindful of your eating habits, cooking more often, enjoying your food, eating meals with others, and being aware of food marketing
- Check out more tips for healthy eating on meal planning, healthy eating on a budget, healthy snacks, and more
- Find out more about healthy eating at home, at school, and, in the community
- Discuss that we need a variety of foods to be healthy, including 'vegetables and fruit,' 'protein foods,' and 'whole grains.' Explore where different foods fit
- Find custom information for teens, adults, parents and older adults
- Continue to use the current Canada’s Food Guide-First Nations, Inuit and Métis, new tools on the way
More tools, resources and information about the food guide are still to come. If you have any questions about it, contact healthpromotionrqhr@rqhealth.ca.
