What's on our table this holiday season?

Staying on course on your health journey can be a bit challenging during the holiday season, but it can be done with a little bit of planning.  If you are hosting the event, there are many easy swaps that you can do to create a meal that everyone can enjoy.  A couple of years ago, I hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for my family.  At the time, my daughter and I were both gluten free.  I just made a few adjustments to the typical Thanksgiving meal.   Here's my old blog post with my menu and recipes:

Gluten Free Thanksgiving

If you are not hosting the event, then you'll need to check ahead of time with the host to find out the menu plan.  In the past, my family members have been good about at least making sure that the main dish (turkey or ham) is gluten free.  Then I just bring a couple of sides and a dessert that is safe for my family to share at the event. This year we will be celebrating Thanksgiving at my mom's house.  She will be cooking the turkey, a couple of vegetable sides, and I plan to bring a side and dessert.

Here's a sample Grain Free Thanksgiving Dinner Plan:
  • Turkey (Just make sure that the turkey is gluten free.  Unfortunately, some companies add in fillers that may contain gluten.  Be sure to read the label carefully).
  • Mashed Cauliflower - (Cook cut-up cauliflower pieces in turkey broth until soft.  Remove from heat, add a couple tablespoons of ghee, salt, and pepper, and "mash" with an immersion blender.)
  • Green Beans (Add in some uncured bacon for a special treat)
  • Apple Cranberry Sweet Potato Bake
  • Kale Salad with with Warm Cranberry Vinaigrette
  • Paleo Pumpkin Pie Bars
