Christmas in the Park … the Railroad Park! Christmas parade of our little legacies and a reserved Ramada with social distancing (bring your own chair!) Our Holiday Tea is now a Christmas Parade at the Railroad Park, December 13th, 11:30 – 1:30 PM. Bring your chair, wear a mask, bring your own lunch and be ready to “parade” your casual Christmas apparel! All family members are welcome. Delta Zeta has reserved the Aste Ramada (see map). It is close to the parking lot, bathrooms and playground. Let’s be a kid once again and enjoy our outside gathering...maybe even take a train ride through the Winter Wonderland! Perhaps your stuffed bear (optional donation for Mighty Change of Heart) can ride the train too!
Park is located at: 7301 E Indian Bend Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250.
Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae Chapter has paid for the Ramada rental. However if you wish to ride the railroad, tickets cost $3.00 each. Rides cost one ticket per rider with children two and under riding free. They also offer discount ticket packs of 8 for $20.00, or all-day wristbands for $12.00. All of these items can be purchased in the Stillman Station. All tickets are non-refundable, but never expire. All day wristbands are non-refundable and are valid only on purchased date. Rides on the Paradise & Pacific Railroad and Charros Carousel run continuously on the weekends.
Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae has a new delegate for the Phoenix Panhellenic Association, as current delegate Anna Kiley is relocating with her family to Missoula, Montana. The Panhellenic delegate is responsible for communication with the alumnae chapter regarding Panhellenic updates as well as serving on a committee within PPA. It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other sorority women in the Phoenix area and to give back to DZ and PPA. We have a great time serving with other sorority women!

Our January book is The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott. A thrilling tale of secretaries turned spies, of love and duty, and of sacrifice--inspired by the true story of the CIA plot to infiltrate the hearts and minds of Soviet Russia, not with propaganda, but with the greatest love story of the twentieth century: Doctor Zhivago. At the height of the Cold War, two secretaries are pulled out of the typing pool at the CIA and given the assignment of a lifetime. Their mission: to smuggle Doctor Zhivago out of the USSR, where no one dare publish it, and help Pasternak's magnum opus make its way into print around the world. Can't wait for our January discussion on January 5.

Merry Christmas Delta Zetas! The holidays are here and it’s time to cheer….even with a mask and six feet apart.
Our annual Teddy Bear Tea will be Christmas in the Park this year. Teddy bears and stuffed animals (12-14”) are welcome! If you cannot make it to the park, you may drop donations off at Sue Norman’s house (west side), Lorna Green’s house (central) or Lee Ann Witt’s house (east side). We will see that they get to Mighty Change of Heart in time for foster kids to have a little joy!
Incredible news….our ASU Delta Zeta chapter initiated 97 new members in the month of November. Initiation was done virtually and although very different, still meaningful and special. I look forward to when the chapter can meet in person and hold a badge ceremony for each of our new Delta Zetas!
Our Pi Zeta chapter (ASU) assisted four other Delta Zeta chapters this fall as they each navigated the new frontier of virtual recruitment. This is a great example of “sisterhood in action”, particularly when “technical training like Zoom” was not part of the plans! Our 2020 collegiate officers led in-person for 2 months before Covid-19 and completed the year virtually with exemplified leadership. The 2021 collegiate officers are now ready to take up their mantle and with luck, although starting out virtually, can complete their terms in-person. Here’s to a fantastic New Year!
May you each have a lovely and special holiday season!
Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men, and Batteries not Included.”

Won't you consider volunteering for the 2021 Open. Through our volunteer efforts, Panhellenic has raised over $800,000 for women's scholarships since 1980. Friends, husbands, family can and are encouraged to volunteer with Delta Zeta. Here is the link to volunteer for February 2021:

Our Pi Zeta Chapter at ASU News
Here is a look at the office/conference space at the chapter house that was partially completed this fall. As you have all probably heard, all in-person classes will be finished in time for the students to go home for Thanksgiving and stay there until the start of the Spring semester. Their chapter meetings and classes have mostly been via zoom this fall semester. We'll see you after the holidays.
As an optional philanthropy, Phoenix Delta Zeta alumnae and collegians donate teddy bears and or other stuffed animals through Phoenix Panhellenic Association for Mighty Change of Heart. Their main focus is supporting foster children and kinship children in Arizona any way they can. There are over 15,500 foster children currently in the system and more are added every day. And while there are many great foster parents out there providing loving homes for these children, State support and resources can often be limited.
When a child enters the system, they often take very little if anything with them in terms of worldly possessions and relying on foster families to make up the difference, which can cause unnecessary financial strain. This is where A Mighty Change of Heart begins. The stuffed animals are given to these children within a bag filled with other items including clothing, books and probably their first possessions. Our 12 to 24 inch stuffed teddy bears or other animals are an important aspect of the bag they take to their new home. Please bring bears to our Holiday at the Park on December 13 or donate directly at: https://www.amchaz.org/

It is with great sadness that we announce that Ruth Ann (Sue) Hippe passed away on Tuesday evening October 27th in her apartment after a fight against cancer. Her daughter, Sara was able to spend the last week before her passing in the apartment assisting both Sue and Ben. Family is planning a memorial service for Sue this summer in Rochester.
Sue was a long time member of the Phoenix Alumnae chapter. For many years, Sue hosted our annual Holiday event at her home in Fountain Hills. She and Pat Wells started our Lunch Bunch. Sue was initiated into Delta Zeta sixty five years ago at University of Wisconsin and so is also a member of the Pearl. At our DZ virtual event in August we honored Sue before she and Ben left the state.
We know that Ben and Sue have made many great friends through-out the years in Rochester, MN, Fountain Hills, AZ, and many other places spread around the world. Family appreciates your thoughts and prayers for both Sue and Ben! Our Phoenix Alumnae Chapter has sent a donation in Sue's name to the Delta Zeta Foundation.
Here is the current contact info for Ben Hippe, The Waters - Apartment 333, 827 Mayowood Rd SW, Rochester, MN 55902, (480) 620-7136 (cell phone)

Phoenix Panhellenic Association
Phoenix Panhellenic gives out over $30,000 per year in scholarships for college and alumnae sorority women due to our volunteers at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. This year there will be a limited amount of fans! But we will are still called upon to volunteer February 3-7 2021 but in a limited capacity.
Here is the link to sign up for the 2021 WMPO. A couple of things to make note of from Panhellenic:
1) Shifts are very limited
2) Tent locations are Food Court (B?), Ridge, Main Entrance, 16 Green and Mobile Beverage Carts. If you sign up with friends/family try to pick the same location
3) As of now, PPA is the only group signing up concession volunteers. This will probably change so sign up soon!
4) If you are not comfortable volunteering this year, then no need to sign up. We will see you in 2022!
5) We will not be sending out group goals but we do hope every group has people that would like to help raise funds for scholarships.
