Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae Chapter will celebrate the Holidays on Saturday December 3 at the home of Lee Ann Witt from 1-3pm. DZ's annual Teddy Bear Tea includes an optional philanthropy. We collect Teddy Bears for the Phoenix Fire Department. We donate the bears through Phoenix Panhellenic Association. The firemen and women use the bears to comfort children in crisis situations. Last year we collected 380 teddy bears and hope to break our record again. Bring your 12"-18" new bear(s) or any other stuffed animal to our Teddy Bear Tea and enjoy our sisterhood as we socialize at this fun Delta Zeta holiday event. Bringing an appetizer or cookies is welcome, but not required.

Lee Ann Witt, 12240 N 86 St, Scottsdale (101 and Cactus) will again be our hostess this year and we hope to see some of our young legacies and fullbacks attending with their DZ Moms as well as Pi Zeta chapter members, DZ Moms and friends. We will have a “special guest” who has a great belly laugh and drives a cool sleigh!!!! So we know how many to plan for, respond to your evite or to:
Phoenix Delta Zeta Alumnae Celebrate Founders Day
Thirty Phoenix Area Alumnae celebrated Founders Day on October 29 at the beautiful home of PJ Heyliger in Paradise Valley. We celebrated 114 years of Delta Zeta sisterhood at a delicious brunch loving made by our DZ sister, Anne Gay.  Alfa, Mary, Anna, Julia, Mabelle, and Anne were remembered as we reflected on our individual reasons for joining Delta Zeta and Phoenix Alumnae. Thanks to PJ for sharing her lovely home and to our personal chef, Anne.
Tucson Delta Zeta Alumnae December Celebration
All Tucson Delta Zeta Alumnae are invited to a holiday luncheon at the Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort on December 10th (Saturday) at 12 noon. This hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places in Arizona. The Hacienda Del Sol is located at 5501 N. Hacienda Del Sol, Tucson  85718. The festive luncheon will take place in the Murphy Room. We are pleased that the hotel has assigned us a private room for sisterhood and discussion. Tucson DZ's have been meeting for about a year. At the December luncheon, we will have the opportunity to decide about becoming an official Alumnae Chapter and the additional opportunities it would provide. Susan Norman, Arizona State Alumnae Chair, will be our guest on this date. Please RSVP to Suzan Bryceland by December 5 or phone 404-824-3129, to confirm your reservation.  Tucson Delta Zeta Founders Day Celebration
Tucson Delta Zeta Alumnae had a wonderful luncheon on October 24th culminating in the special Founder's Day Service. Six of our members present represented each of the six founders and paid tribute to each by reciting the tenet from our Delta Zeta Creed associated with each founder's name. The candle lighting ceremony  followed. In addition Suzan Bryceland shared with the group the Colorado Rockies trip
that Oscar, the turtle journeyed to in October. From the Rocky Mountain Park to scenic highways from Durango to Ouray and Delores to Telluride, Oscar saw the beautiful aspen trees in their glorious  golden color. But our state of Arizona was not left out. His favorite stop was in Winslow, Arizona which was made famous by the Eagles' song Take It Easy. Seeing the bronze statue of the guy, "Standing On the Corner" was a unique stop for Oscar.

Alumna Spotlight-Elizabeth (Anne) Gay
The 1960s was an important decade for our Delta Zeta sister Elizabeth Gay although sisters call her Ann. "I was initiated into Delta Upsilon Chapter on the campus of Marshall University (Huntington, W.Va.) in 1960," Ann explains. "It was a life-changing event for me." As an off-campus student, she found that the Delta Zeta affiliation brought her college experience full circle.

The leadership skills she acquired during those years served her well. "Several years after graduation, I was living in a small college town in West Virginia," Ann says. "My husband was a faculty member of the college, and I was teaching in the local public school system. The DZ chapter on campus had a chapter house with a staff and needed a CCD. I served in that position for five years." During those five years, she attended a Delta Zeta National Convention in Phoenix. Little did she realize that 15 years later it would become home for the next 30 years!

In 2001, Ann retired from teaching in the Scottsdale Unified School District but returned to teaching two years later. She retired again in 2013, from Tucker County School System in West Virginia.

Ann has always been an avid reader and still enjoys it even though her eyesight isn't as strong as it used to be. "Selecting my favorite book is difficult, but two I have enjoyed over the years are Irving Stone's LOVE IS ETERNAL and Allen Eckert's THE DARK AND BLOODY RIVER," she says. "The latter was part of the research my cousin and I used in writing and publishing our family history."
Part of Ann's college teaching degree included specialization in vocal music. She often taught music as part of her teaching positions and participated in many musical productions. She loves music in all forms.

She also loves to travel. "I have been fortunate to have traveled extensively," she says. "I made several trips abroad and have traveled our beautiful country. My favorite trip abroad was to Ireland. In our country it is Alaska."

Since returning to Phoenix, Ann has again found that Delta Zeta affiliation provides opportunities to interact with a group of interesting and involved sisters. "It is giving me the chance to feel like I can be of help...and that is a wonderful thing." Delta Zeta is also pleased that you are back and that you catered our Founders Day Brunch and served as the chair of our Taco Supper event with our chapter members at ASU last Spring.
