A Newsletter Change
I have enjoyed being the State Alumnae Chair for Arizona the past four years. I am especially fond of getting to know more wonderful Delta Zetas in our state. But things changed and I have resigned as DZ State Alumnae Chair. As part of my SAC role I sent out the monthly newsletters to all DZ alumnae in Arizona. Since I am no longer SAC, I will no longer be sending the monthly AZ newsletters which included Phoenix info. I am still the media chair for the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter and will send out occasional newsletters for all alumnae in the greater Phoenix valley.

All DZ events like Lunch Bunch will be posted on Facebook. You do not have to be a member of Facebook to view the posts. Check it out at:

I also manage the DZ Phoenix Alumnae website at:
Check out “Sisterhood Events” for the latest news about events. It is updated as details or changes are known.

Your Phoenix Alumnae exec team met recently and planned a great coming year for Delta Zetas in the Phoenix area, so mark your calendars and join in the fun this our 70th year of Phoenix Alumnae Chapter. New to the area, let one of the board members know and we probably have another sister who lives in the same area of the Valley.

One of my last official SAC events was to attend the Delta Gamma Panhellenic Luncheon at their convention at the AZ Biltmore this month. My Delta Gamma friend Mary Jo is pictured with me and the Delta Zeta flag. Thanks for your support,  Susan Norman
Let's Celebrate 70 Years of Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae
The Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae Chapter received its charter at Founders Day events on October 24, 1948, at the home of Mrs. C. L. Bevins. Pictured at the tea following the chapter's installation are (from left) Mrs. Bevins, hostess; Miss Rosalind Fowler, chapter president; and Mrs. Garold Leach, national alumnae vice president, who conducted the installation ceremony. Special guests included Presidents and Panhellenic representatives of National alumnae groups in Phoenix.

Dinners, potlucks and bridge parties seem to dominate the sisterhoods in the 1940s. Speaker topics included rushing, camping for youth in war time and a round table discussion on rent control.
It is interesting to note that the summer meetings
in the 1940s were family picnics at En Canto (spelled Encanto now) park as the members enjoyed being outdoors. Alumnae were also working on layettes for Norway and gathering reading materials for Arizona States Sanatorium patients.
Here is a photo from Phoenix Alumnae Founders Day 2017. Founders Day Celebrations this year will look completely different again as we celebrate our sisterhood at Saguaro Lake-Butcher Jones Trail. Don't miss this fun and different way to celebrate on October 20.

Phoenix Alumnae Chapter Philanthropy
The DZ Phoenix Alumnae chapter presented our first scholarship at Phoenix Day School for the Deaf at their very first high school graduation in 1983. The Delta Zeta Phoenix Alumnae/Claudia Edwards Hosking Memorial Scholarship is made possible by generous donations and fundraisers that are held throughout the year by our Alumnae as well as our collegiate chapter here at ASU.
It was an honor for our Philanthropy Chair, Natalie Schade to present the Delta Zeta 2018 scholarship to Kissandra Rivera-Calderon in the amount of $1,500 at the schools Award Ceremony in May. This scholarship is for a graduating senior going on to college. Thanks for your support for this philanthropy that is dear to Phoenix valley Delta Zetas.
