Phoenix Alumnae Teddy Bear Tea & Christmas Wonderland

Delta Zeta Holiday Spirit!
Red and green - the traditional colors of Christmas - gave way to pink and green on December 3, when Phoenix alumnae and kids gathered for the alumnae chapter’s annual “Teddy Bear Tea” and holiday party. “Christmas isn’t a season. It’s a feeling,” according to author Edna Ferber. And a feeling of warm, genuine sisterhood was in the air during the afternoon of fun and laughter at hostess Lee Ann Witt’s home in Scottsdale. Those who arrived at 1:00 pm were put to work; many others came at 2:00 and enjoyed a wide array of appetizers, treats and activities before leaving shortly after 4:00.

Ann Gay provided delicious favors - mini loaves of bread -  and Dusty Tingstrom made the name tags and gave away a gorgeous necklace. Santa distributed gifts to all the kids, who discovered that bubbles worked better in the backyard! Mary Chandler missed only one in a rousing game of “Christmas Carol Scramble” and, along with second- and third-place winners, took home Satin Hands lotion and comfy socks.

And what’s this about Ann Haggerty kissing Santa? “It was great fun!” says Lee Ann. Big thanks to all who contributed goodies and about 100 bears. Check out the Phoenix Alumnae Facebook page for many great photos of our holiday event.
Here’s to a wonderful pink-and-green New Year!
Tucson Alumnae Chapter December Holiday Luncheon
A bright and festive holiday luncheon was held at the Hacienda del Sol Resort on December 11th. It was a treat to be with our Delta Zeta sisters to celebrate being together and to celebrate this wonderful season. It was a delight to welcome our guest Shalah Smith, Delta Phi Chapter, Northeastern State University from Burke, Virginia who was visiting for the holidays.

Special recognition went to Barbara Tiahrt, Miami University, Alpha chapter of 1956, for the Golden Rose milestone. Barbara actually reached this distinction in 2006. But 11 years later, our turtle express caught up with her for this honor!

The Delta Zeta Foundation recognized the Founder's Day contribution of the members which fosters leadership skills at annual Presidents Academy, helps develop leadership roles for the Norma Minch Andrisek Leadership Conference and provides educational scholarships.

Turtles were popping up everywhere through the Secret Santa gift exchange. There will be many Christmas trees decorated with our special mascot. Plus Oscar, the turtle shared some of his travel adventures with Briana Russo. Karen Ray, Tucson Panhellenic liaison, provided an update on the scholarship fundraiser in March. A tour of the University of Arizona sorority houses has been scheduled which will help fund two $1500 scholarships.

Discovering that our treasurer, Nancy Karsh, had vocal talent, members were able to sing that wonderful song, "Delta Zeta Lamps Are Burning" which will be the closing for each luncheon in the future. The next meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2018 at Hacienda Del Sol.  All Delta Zeta sisters are invited to this fun gathering.
