Our September book was The Last Thing He Told Me. Even if you have not read the book you are invited to join us for the discussion of it on October 5th at 7pm. What Has Delta Zeta Meant to You?
As we approach our 119th Founders Day, several members were asked what Delta Zeta has meant to you. Here are a few reponses. Please send your thoughts with a college picture if possible to dzarizona@net for future newsletters.
"I am the current VP of Philanthropy for the Pi Zeta chapter. Coming into college I did not have many friends which made me want to go through recruitment and join a sorority. Since joining Delta Zeta I have met some of my best friends through living in the house and getting involved in the chapter. I cherish the opportunity of getting to live with my roommate Madison Holeman in the GLV, who I didn't even know until we moved in. I definitely would not be the person I am now if I did not meet all the amazing women in Delta Zeta. DZ has made such an amazing impact on me through the active members and the amazing alumnae we have in our sorority. I also just wanted to thank my awesome advisors Lee Ann, Lorna and Ashleigh because you have helped me tremendously and motivated me to do my best in this sorority." Rachel Hall, Pi Zeta, Initiated 2019
"Delta Zeta means lifelong friendships. It is a way to connect when moving to new communities, to make new friends, and to continue the DZ sisterhood. I have been a DZ for 63 years, and still maintain friendships with my college sisters! I have been a member of the DZ Phoenix Alumnae Chapter for 53 years. It doesn't get better than that!!" Pat Wells, Gamma Lambda chapter, San Jose State College (now University), Initiated 1958. Pictured in 1983 at PDSD graduation ceremony.
"I feel very lucky to be a Delta Zeta. My pledge sisters and I have known each other for over 50 years. About half of us attended our 10th and 25th reunions, but for most of us, those were the child raising years and attendance depended on children’s schedules. As we approached our 50th reunion, we were disappointed that the reunion was postponed because of Covid. Enter Zoom and the twelve of us were able to “see” each other although we are spread out all over the country.
We feel very fortunate that we are all still alive and in good health after all these years. We are planning a Zoom call for our sisters from the class ahead of us as well as the class behind us at the beginning of October. We are hoping to be able to celebrate all of our 50th reunions in June, 2022 in person.

When I first moved to AZ in 2014, I knew that I wanted to find DZ sisters here. I really didn’t know many people and I knew I needed a group to “belong” to. The biggest surprise was when Diane Gangloff, my former neighbor behind us, and I found out that we were both DZs. I miss going to our Lunch Bunches and Founders Days with her. It’s good to see her at our Zoom Book Club meetings." Ruth Kovac, Delta, Initiated 1968. Picture is my sorority family: me, my sorority daughter and my sorority mother.

"Being part of a group and making friends for a lifetime. I belonged to the alumnae chapter in CO Springs for 50 years. Now I am happy to be a member of a wonderful alumnae group in Phoenix."  Phyllis (PJ) Heylinger, Delta Omicron, Initiated 1957. Photo from college years.
"Delta Zeta means friendship, care, concern, fun and food!!!".  Lorna Green, Alpha Beta, Initiated 1968. Phoenix Alumnae Chapter Treasurer for many years. Also Pi Zeta House Corporation adviser.

Delta Zeta has meant friendships and leadership opportunities for over 50 years. My life has truly been enhanced with my DZ sisters. I moved to Phoenix in 1978, as I knew there would be wonderful sisters to meet, socialize and bond with. And there were here welcoming me with open arms. It was my privilege to meet and share events with outstanding Phoenix alumna, Grace Mason Lundy, Helen Nolop and the organizer of Alumnae Chapter, Birdie Keen and so many more. You can meet wonderful Delta Zetas everywhere. Susan Norman, Zeta Initiated 1970, Photo from 1971.
“Now” is the best part! The women in our Delta Zeta Phoenix alumnae chapter have become some of my best friends. We celebrate one another’s achievements and support one another through the birth of new babies, marriages, promotions, and other life milestones. It’s fun to see each other’s children grow up to have children of their own. It’s enriching to see the progress of our chapter members. And we love welcoming in new members that have now chosen to join our membership. We hope to see YOU and our younger alumnae this Founder’s Day! Lee Ann Witt, Zeta Psi, Initiated 1978. Phoenix Alumnae Chapter President.

Our Pi Zeta Chapter at ASU News
This must be the place… there are truly no words to describe what it means to be a Delta Zeta.  Recruitment reminded us of why we fell in love with this one of a kind sisterhood. We hope to have shown throughout recruitment all the love that fills our DZ home… a love that is ever steadfast. We  shared an even bigger part of our hearts at their special Preference Ceremony.

Our Pi Zeta Chapter welcomed 90 new members in September. Congratulations to all.
That is a high number - set by ASU. And for the first time ever, 4 new members (freshmen) have moved into our Delta Zeta GLV house. This will help us meet our bed quota, so that the girls don't have to pay for the empty beds.

ASU Recruitment was once again a great success!  A total of 1412 women signed up for recruitment with 1,122 preference cards. Results were 1,072 received bids and Quota was 85. Delta Zeta took 90 new members. Each of the thirteen sororities took quota.

The first round of recruitment was held virtually meaning that Potential New Members (PNMs) submit their individual videos for sororities to review.  Likewise, each sorority submits a chapter video for the PNMs to review alongside their Recruitment Counselor (Rho Gamma).  Each sorority is then issued a certain number to invite back under the Release Figure Methodology (RFM) method of recruitment.  This method maximizes the number of potential new members who ultimately affiliate with a sorority through recruitment.

The second round of recruitment emphasizes “Sisterhood” and the third round of recruitment focuses on “Philanthropy”.  These rounds, along with Preference, were held in-person. Recruitment took place over two weekends – August 28th and Labor Day weekend. Bid Day was on Labor Day.

Our Pi Zeta Chapter at ASU welcomed in 10 legacies! Our Pi Zeta chapter was founded October 8, 2005 making them 16 years old this year.
