New Members at ASU

Many thanks to alumna, Kristen Weston-Smith who organized this fun event for alumnae to
welcome our new ASU sisters into Delta Zeta. It was a DZlicious evening of sisterhood.
Come Home to Delta Zeta
Support the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter and pay your 2016-2017 dues. Delta Zeta is for a lifetime-not just four years. One of the best parts of Alumnae membership is that you don't have to go to anything you don't want to. Absolutely nothing is mandatory. You can be as active as you want. We hope you will be able to attend some events because they are fun, you meet new people, network, and enjoy our Delta Zeta sisterhood.

Membership dues are only $35 for a whole year and $0 for 2016 Pi Zeta graduates. Our year runs from March-March. Membership applications can be found at: and you can pay online or mail in if you prefer.

Thank you for supporting our DZ sisterhood and the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter. We truly appreciate your continued support of our programs and events. Check out the calendar below to see what's happening.
 Phoenix Lunch Bunch
Next Phoenix Lunch Bunch is Friday, October 7, 11:30am at Brio Tuscon Grill, 15301 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Heart for Hearing Gala
Delta Zeta alumnae, Pi Zeta chapter members and their parents enjoyed the Heart for Hearing Gala to support Starkey Hearing Foundation one of our Philanthropies on September 16. We enjoyed great food, dancing and of course sisterhood. Thanks to all for giving graciously and truly supporting our philanthropies. We look forward to next years celebration--it just gets better every year.
 Turtle Draw
Every year the Pi Zeta House Corporation Board holds a Turtle Draw for the new members at ASU in October. At the Draw, the new members draw numbers for priority for living in Adelphi (our home at ASU). We give each girl a remembrance of the evening. Anything with a turtle theme, DZ or pink and green is perfect. If you would like to donate any of these small items, bring to Founders Day or call Lorna Green 602-290-6475 to arrange for pick up. Our women appreciate it as they are just starting their Delta Zeta collections. Photo from Turtle Draw 2012.
Alumna Spotlight-Amanda Arredondo Cook
"I love being a Delta Zeta," says Amanda Arredondo Cook. "It has truly been one of the best decisions I ever made." Amanda became our sister in 2005 when she was initiated into the Pi Gamma Chapter at California State University-Northridge. Nursing is her profession.

"Delta Zeta has given me so many things, from leadership skills to countless dance parties and laughter," she says, "but it has also kept its promise to be there no matter what." Amanda is a Gold Star Wife. Her husband died while serving our country. "During the very hard and dark times since his passing, many of my sisters came to my rescue and have helped me through a devastating loss. They continue to be there for everything," she says.

Amanda is thankful to have such amazing strong women in her corner at all times. "DZ means continued love and support," Amanda explains. "I know I will always have a sister to call when I need some guidance or just to laugh, and I know that wherever my life takes me there will be DZs around to connect with and build a strong, lasting foundation."

"Sixteen Candles" is Amanda's favorite movie. She loves Country music, so any Country song pleases her, but Carrie Underwood is her "absolute favorite" artist. Her dream vacation would be traveling all around Europe. "There are so many beautiful places I want to see," she says.

We are so glad Amanda decided Delta Zeta is her favorite sorority and that she is now living in Phoenix.

In Memoriam-Jeannette Oehring

Jan was born in Chicago, Illinois, living in the suburbs of Lincolnwood, Morton Grove and Glenview with her parents, prior to moving to Bedford, Texas and finally living the past 30 years in Sun City West, Arizona. She graduated from Drake University where she was a member of Delta Zeta. Jan went on to work in the tourism industry. Jan traveled extensively around the world, having visited most all major continents, as well as having taken over 50 cruises. She even flew on the Concord SST, on one of the few flights made from Europe to the US. Jan was a long time member of the Phoenix Alumnae chapter. She is probably remembered most for handing out to those she met, a “calling card” of sorts – close to 20,000 in 4 different languages, which read “You’re a Nice Person, Just to Tell You So”.

Phoenix Panhellenic Association Updates
Each year Delta Zeta alumnae and collegians donate teddy bears through Phoenix Panhellenic Assosciation for the Phoenix Fire Department. The bears are given to children in crisis situations. Last year DZ donated over 300 bears. Lets do it again. 12 to 24 inch stuffed teddy bears or other animals preferred. Please bring bears to any fall event especially our Teddy Bear Tea in December or contact Lee Ann Witt our Panhellenic delegate for pick up.
Panhellenic volunteers annually donate their time to work concessions at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in order to earn money to award scholarships and provide tuition assistance to Arizona undergraduate, graduate sorority women and alumnae continuing their education. Registration for the Waste Management Phoenix will begin in October.  Delta Zeta needs your help to fill our quota. Email with questions. Remember anyone can be a Delta Zeta for a day. Volunteer with friends and family. Photo shows Susan Norman and Mary Peterson volunteering in 2016. In early October click to volunteer as dates fill up quickly:
