Delta Zeta Virtual Book Club
This is the perfect time to start a Virtual DZ Book Club. The first selection is "The Guest List" by Lucy Foley. Our first book club virtual zoom meeting will be September 1 @ 7 pm to discuss. We will meet monthly from there out and announce the new book in each newsletter. Then the 1st Tuesday evening of the following month we will discuss - so you have approximately 4 weeks to read each selection before the Book Club discussion. The only thing missing is the food and drink, so bring your own and lets have fun with this new activity. Thanks to Ashlee Lepa for heading this up. If you need more info contact her at: email@example.com
or text her at (319) 400-3451. Info on joining this event and others will also be on our website: click here.
"Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics…Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.” -- New York Times Book Review
Cheryl Norder is a Phoenix Delta Zeta Alum member, wife, mother and Vice President of Global Quality for Phillips-Medisize, LLC: A Molex Company. Her company is a global end to end provider of design and manufacturing for pharmaceutical drug delivery, diagnostics and medical device customers. She was initiated at Epsilon Omicron in 1988.
When asked what Delta Zeta means to her, she responds, "DZ means always having a friend anywhere in the world, not just 4 years but for life; it has taught me to always "give graciously of what is mine" and to be the best woman and role model I know how to be. I am currently the Financial Advisor for the Zeta Beta Chapter of University Wisconsin Stout where I also served as their CCD for many years."
Her favorite movie is The Cutting Edge. She is not an ice skater but enjoys the sappy love story and watching some great ice skating. Cinderella is also a favorite.
Each year since 2013 (with the exception of 2020), Cheryl and her daughter have been able to take a European vacation. Others have joined them on different trips like her mom and her husband, but it is always Alli and Cheryl. They have been to Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Monaco, and Germany. Still on their list is Greece, South America, and Egypt. They also travel quite a bit in the United States with our their favorites being NYC and LA!
Cheryl has been married to Keith for almost 27 years and they have a 22 year old daughter, Allison, who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2018. Allison is currently ready to start her 3rd year of law school at American University Washington College of Law, in Washington DC. Cheryl lived most of her life in the Midwest (Illinois and Wisconsin) but in 2018 she and Keith decided to leave the ice, snow and humidity behind and relocate to sunny Arizona. They are Wisconsin Badgers and Minnesota Gophers sports fans. Cheryl loves to meet new people! Welcome Cheryl. Her contact info is:firstname.lastname@example.org

We still have to pay dues to National and to Phoenix Panhellenic and our scholarships for Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. Dues are still only $35. If you aren't sure if you paid this year, just contact treasurer email@example.com.
You can mail a check to our treasurer (made out to Delta Zeta) to: Lorna Green, 4723 E. Voltaire Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85032 or you can pay on line with any major credit card. Check it out at: https://www.deltazetaphoenix.com/join-us.html

Phoenix Alumnae Chapter
Dear Delta Zeta Sisters and friends,
This last week reminded me why we all joined Delta Zeta – the belonging and friendship we have experienced through the years as Delta Zetas. Our Zoom call to wish Sue Hippe farewell and good wishes as she moves to Minnesota to be with family had 18 participants. Some grudgingly joined Zoom and found that it was not that hard after all! And the good news….no matter where you may live, we can still be together virtually!
The good news about virtual calls:
Saves drive times to lunch and events
You can dress great on top and no one sees the bottoms
You actually can hear each person talking (vs. just a few at the lunch table!)
Fun presentations and games
Come up with new ideas
That’s how our Book Club idea came up and we are excited that Ashlee Lepa is going to lead us in our first book and discussions. I have never done a book club and I am really looking forward to it. I hope you will join us!
There are more activities and virtual events being planned. It’s the best way to connect in these crazy times and experience our friendships all over again.
“To my friends, understanding and appreciation.
To those closer ones, love that is ever steadfast.”
Let us know what you are up to…… share a crazy Coronavirus story with us…..inspire us with your creativity….we can’t wait to connect!
As with so many events this year, Phoenix Day School for the Deaf presented their scholarship awards virtually. You can watch the presentation by clicking the link. Delta Zeta scholarships are the first ones presented. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj0N0wtcJAQ
Thank you to the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter and especially our Pi Zeta chapter at ASU for supporting these scholarships for high school seniors going on to higher education.
It's truly made a difference since 1983.
Due to COVID-19 our Lunch Bunches will not be meeting in the near future. If you want to get on the Phoenix/Scottsdale Lunch Bunch email list (they meet on different days and different locations thru the valley) contact Pat Wells: RaWells@aol.com
The Westside Lunch Bunch meets every other month on the first Monday at Mercers restaurant in Peoria. Contact Anne Gay: firstname.lastname@example.org, to get on this contact list.
Blast from the Past
Delta Zeta held its 1969 National Convention at the TownHouse in downtown Phoenix. The photo shows the Phoenix alumnae welcome committee at convention. Pictured l- r are; “Birdie” Keen (Phoenix Panhellenics 4th President and DZ Phoenix Alumnae Founding President), Helen Nolop, Past National DZ President and long time member of Phoenix Alumnae, unknown, Reba Eldridge and the rest were not noted.
Delta Zeta alumnae made homemade burlap bags with a cactus and sun on front and DZ on back.
Alumnae also gave each attendee a small cactus as well to take home.
This editor is actually in Arizona because of this convention.
Pi Zeta News
As of today, the Pi Zetas will be returning to the ASU campus soon but it will be a different world for them. As you can imagine, masks will be required on campus, in classrooms, just about everywhere. No one will be allowed in the house at GLV (Greek Leadership Village) unless they are a resident. This includes all DZs that don't live in the house. Moving in will be spread out and only 2 people can help with the procedure.
Roommates cannot move in at the same time. Many more rules! National has sent attractive signage with rules and instructions (social distancing, wear a mask, etc.) and will be sending a few other supplies. The girls will be supplying other necessary items as needed.
In the meantime, there are some updates/redecorating going on this summer at the house. Most of it is occurring in the Conference room with some other additions to the main floor. Our hope was that we could have Founder's Day there this October so you could see all the changes but like so many other events, that will have to be postponed. Maybe we can share a virtual tour of the house at one of our zoom events, so we can all see the new look.
The two blue armchairs, 2 side tables and area rug that were in the house are now for sale. If you are interested in any pieces, please contact Lorna Green at 602-290-6475. Price/cheap? Best offer! You can view items in our July newsletter. Clickhere.

ASU Panhellenic needs your help to practice virtual recruitment. Thanks to everyone that has signed up so far to help out but they are still looking for more volunteers! Please fill out the Google Form if you are able to help out. All you need is access to Zoom with camera and microphone. It will definitely be exciting to see their process! Thanks so much! All Panhellenic alumnae are invited to participate. Click here to sign up.
Phoenix Panhellenic Association
Phoenix Panhellenic has made the difficult decision to host the Centennial Celebration virtually on August 8th and move to the evening. The restrictions for social distancing in a ballroom and bringing together 390 people during this pandemic was not in the best interest of our guests.
The good news is you now have the ability watch live. The pre-show begins at 5PM. The pre-show includes a Journey Through History Video Show. The show begins at 5:30pm.
There is NO cost to register and view the event from your home. Many were not able to get a ticket, so now you all can attend. Please register at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/gzP/. If you feel safe, we do encourage you to consider hosting viewing parties (10 or less) at members' individual homes. You can also bid on auction items from this site at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/gzP/i/
Judith Hardes Delta Zeta, is our Woman of Impact and she and the women from other sororities will be honored on the evening. We will also hear guest speaker, Dr. Mari Ann Callais and many other surprises.
We promise this is not a Zoom "meeting", it will be a show. A Panhellenic show you don't want to miss! Show your Delta Zeta pride and register at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/gzP/
