The Monthly Aqueduct

News about all things Aqueductian

The year is coming to a close and we have much to celebrate, but we are also looking forward. Among this month's highlights are the Tiptree Symposium, Jackie Hatton's debut novel Flesh & Wires, and two new covers
 — a sneak peek at what we are preparing for 2016.

Tiptree Symposium, Eugene OR, December 4–5

Cabinet at James Tiptree, Jr. exhibitionThe Aqueduct team and many Aqueductistas attended the symposium hosted by the University of Oregon Libraries last weekend in honor of Alice Sheldon/James Tiptree, Jr. on the centennial of her birth. Timmi has written an insightful report for our blog, including the contributions of several attending authors such as Ursula K. Le Guin, Nisi Shawl, and Suzy McKee Charnas. Don't miss it!

Additionally, Timmi spoke at a panel on the subject of sf publishing, while Kath took care of our bookselling stand, which this time showcased all of the Aqueduct titles that have won or been shortlisted for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award. (The length is impressive, if we may say so ourselves.) If you're looking for some Tiptree-inspired holiday shopping inspiration, have a look.
Flesh & Wires, new novel by Jackie Hatton

Flesh & Wires front coverWe are very pleased to announce the release of Flesh & Wires, a debut novel by Jackie Hatton, in both print and e-book editions. Following a failed alien invasion the world left is sparsely populated with psychologically scarred survivors, some of them technologically-enhanced women. Lo, leader of the small safe haven of Saugatuck, find their technological enhancements put to the test when a spaceship arrives bearing two men with both wonderful and terrifying news. Is this the beginning of a new era of reconstruction — or the start of a new battle for survival?

$19.00 (paperback)
$7.95 (e-book)

Visit for Jackie Hatton’s five recommended post-apocalyptic novels “that give women their due.” We shall add her debut novel to that list, for it well deserves it.

Elysium audiobook cover

Good news for audiobook lovers: Jennifer Marie Brissett's much-loved novel Elysium is now available in audio format, narrated by Jamye Meri Grant.
Brissett will be talking about this and more next week at Hour of the Wolf, the New York City WBAI radio program dedicated to science fiction.
Forthcoming in 2016
We are very happy to share with you the covers of two Aqueduct titles coming out next year: Roadsouls, a lush fantasy about embracing difference and change, by Betsy James (who also created the wonderful illustration for the cover); and Hwarhath Stories, Eleanor Arnason’s extraordinary selection of alien storytelling. Hold on to your seats: next year promises to be full of literary excitement.
