Beyoglu successfully hosts the WeGO EXCOM Meeting 2016

WeGO successfully completed the WeGO Executive Committee (EXCOM) Meeting 2016 in Beyoglu, Turkey, which hosted over 50 officials representing 8 EXCOM Members, 9 Observer Cities, and 2 Observer Institutions. The three-day event consisted of a press conference and the EXCOM Session on Day 1, focused Sessions on Public-Private Partnerships for Smart City Projects and Best Practice Sharing: From Citizen Participation to Citizen Empowerment and a technical tour on Day 2, as well as a cultural tour on Day 3. Towards New Horizons with the New WeGO Mission and the Three-Year Strategic Plan
Considering the unprecedented global urbanization and the rapid and constant change of technology adoption, WeGO has initiated the formulation of an updated organizational mission as well as a new strategic plan for the next three years. The WeGO Secretariat is currently working with highly-qualified consultants to conduct in-depth research prior to presenting the new mission and strategic plan to the General Assembly in 2017. At the last EXCOM meeting, EXCOM members stressed the importance of “smart sustainable city” and “e-Government” themes and the necessity of including “citizen well-being and quality of life” as the ultimate goal of WeGO’s activities.

Mark the 4th WeGO General Assembly dates on your calendars
The WeGO Secretariat is pleased to inform everyone that following the WeGO EXCOM Meeting 2016, the dates of the 4th WeGO General Assembly in Ulyanovsk Region, Russia have been finalized to June 27 to 30, 2017. The General Assembly is WeGO’s triennial flagship conference accompanied by numerous smart city related side events, including the 3rd WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards, with over 350+ leaders and e-Government and smart city experts from around the world in attendance. We warmly invite WeGO members and non-members to contribute to key WeGO agenda, to demonstrate their best ICT and e-Government practices to a high-profile international audience, and to enjoy rich networking opportunities with different stakeholders at the General Assembly. 
Achieve recognition for your city's best practices at the 3rd WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards 2017
One of the highlights of the upcoming WeGO General Assembly will be the 3rd WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards, an international competition recognizing excellence in ICT, e-Governance, and smart city technologies for the ultimate goal of urban sustainability. Learn from the WeGO Asia Regional Office through the Chengdu Training Program

The WeGO Asia Regional Office in Chengdu, China will be hosting its annual Chengdu e-Government Training Program which will feature the city's e-Government development, "Bright Eye" Project, and other various technologies and practices that will help enrich the e-Government capability of other WeGO members. Aside from attending lectures, training program participants will also get to experience the culture of Chengdu through special tours planned by the city.
WeGO's Upcoming Programs and Activities in 2017
As 2016 comes to an end, WeGO is happy to share its list of programs and activities for 2017. After further discussions with partners and stakeholders, the WeGO Secretariat will be sending an updated version to members with final dates and programs at the beginning of 2017. WeGO Welcomes New Members
WeGO is pleased to welcome new members to the WeGO Network! La Marsa (Tunisia), La Union Province (Philippines), and the following cities from Nigeria-- Calabar, Donga, Gassol, Jalingo, Karim-Lamido, Kurmi-Baissa, Pupule Yorro, Sardauna-Gembu, and Takum-- joined WeGO and are now Full Members after the approval of the Executive Committee in October 2016. Additionally, Goyang (Korea), Kaduna State (Nigeria), the National Information Technology Authority (Uganda) are eligible to be confirmed as Full Members at the 4th WeGO General Assembly in Ulyanovsk Region, Russia in June 2017. The WeGO family has grown to 115 members.
WeGO co-organizes the 2nd Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Sustainable Cities and e-Government with ITU

WeGO partnered with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in organizing the 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Sustainable Cities and e-Government. The event was hosted on the beautiful resort island of Phuket, Thailand, where WeGO organized sessions on City-to-City Cooperation, Civic Participation, and IoT & Big Data. The Forum serves as a great opportunity for high-level dialogue among leaders in the smart city movement. For more information, please click on this link.
WeGO holds packed Networking Event at Habitat III

WeGO and its partner, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS), organized a Networking Event on Smart City Strategies and Data Revolution for Sustainable Development at Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. The networking event, which focused on the Asia-Pacific and American experience on how smart city strategies and data can make cities more efficient and sustainable, was very popular among the 46,000 participants of Habitat III. WeGO Pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress
November 15-17, 2016
Barcelona, Spain
For the 2nd year in a row, members joined the WeGO Pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress, the premier global summit for smart cities. Under the umbrella of the WeGO Pavilion, WeGO members Moscow (Russia), Seongnam (Korea), and the National Information Technology Development Authority (NITDA) (Nigeria) featured their unique and trailblazing smart city solutions. The Deputy Mayor of Seongnam, the Deputy CIO of Moscow, and the Head of the e-Government of NITDA were also able to deliver presentations at the Congress. Know your city's e-Government maturity through the City e-Government Diagnostic and Solution (CeDS) Online Platform
The WeGO Secretariat encourages its members to use the CeDS Online Platform, a diagnostic tool to help members analyze their city e-Government maturity and identify key action items without the help of outside experts. The platform is exclusive to WeGO members and can be used up to 4 times a year to check the development progress of a city’s e-Government environment and to formulate effective development strategies. Members should contact the WeGO Secretariat and get their log-in credentials to start using the CeDS Online Platform! More information on the CeDS can be found here.
Make your city smarter with the WeGO-TM Forum Smart City Maturity and Benchmark Model
The WeGO-TM Forum Smart City Maturity and Benchmark Model has been designed to capture the key aspects of a city's transformation journey to become a smarter city, focusing on levels of community and citizen engagement. Any members who take the survey are also entitled to the following:
• A one-hour presentation of the smart city maturity model with Q&A 
• The Excel workbook to be used for gathering data and city evidence as well as for presenting outcomes
• Benchmark data will be made available after submission of the survey data
• A wrap-up session with a smart city expert to discuss the conclusions from using the model

Participate at the Uraía 2017 Madrid workshop and share your experience

The Uraía Platform, an initiative led by UN-Habitat and FMDV (Global Fund for Cities Development), is inviting WeGO members to its Workshop  on Transparent and Accountable Cities: Innovative Solutions for Municipal Management and Finance in Madrid from February 8 to 10, 2017. The workshop will explore how smart technologies can help improve transparency and accountability in cities and will combine plenary sessions, in-depth debates, as well field visits led by Spanish municipalities. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your experience and get inspired by city decision makers from all around the world!
