Dr. Young-sook Nam is Appointed as the New Secretary General of WeGO
 
On January 18, 2016, Seoul Mayor Won-soon Park, as President of WeGO, officially appointed Dr. Young-sook Nam as the new Secretary General of WeGO to propel the organization into the next phase of its development under her strong leadership and strategic vision.

Dr. Nam joins WeGO with extensive experience in the international setting, from her latest post as a Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies at Ewha Womans University in Korea, to her previous work at the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), Korea Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Labor Office (ILO).

WeGO Consultation Project on “Civic Participation System” for 5 WeGO Members
 
WeGO Members Hanoi (Vietnam) and San Fernando La Union (Philippines) received a long-term consultancy from WeGO’s Consultants on the feasibility of adopting a “Civic Participation-based e-Government System (CPS)” as the main beneficiaries of the WeGO Feasibility Study (F/S) Project. With the expansion of the Project scope, an actual CPS, with a focus on managing citizens' complaints, was developed by the Consultants and delivered to Hanoi and San Fernando La Union, as well as three additional WeGO members which are Quezon (Philippines), Pokhara (Nepal), and Bharatpur (Nepal). All beneficiaries have been trained and invited to use the CPS with full support on operation and maintenance to be provided by the Consultants until July 2016.

Smart City Expo World Congress

A 26-member WeGO delegation consisting of representatives from Gimpo (Korea), Seoul (Korea), Seongnam (Korea), and the National Information Technology Development Agency (Nigeria) participated at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2015, the premier global summit for smart cities. Under the strategically located WeGO Pavilion in the Exhibition Area, WeGO members showcased their smart solutions. Also through WeGO's facilitation, high-level members of the WeGO delegation successfully presented their best practices at the World Congress. Global City Teams Challenge

Kick-off Workshop: Nov 12-13, 2015

Virtual Workshop: Jan 21-22, 2016

 
As an official partner of the Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC), WeGO joined the GCTC Kick-Off Workshop in Maryland with its members Galle (Sri Lanka), Nairobi (Kenya), and the National Information Technology Development Agency (Nigeria) to explore collaborating with other innovators around the world to solve common city problems through ICT/ IoT technology. In order to encourage WeGO members' participation in the GCTC, WeGO also offered an online, Virtual Kick-Off Workshop hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and IBM. WeGO will continue to support its members’ participation and development of projects throughout the GCTC.

Global Ranking for Smart Cities

WeGO participated in the Forum on Global Ranking for Smart Cities, which was hosted by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), to discuss cooperating on a Smart City Project for WeGO members. As a leading think tank in China dedicated to promoting Smart City programs for city informatization and social advancement, WeGO and SASS are planning to launch a jointly branded Smart Sustainable Cities Project in 2016, which will distinguish a framework of indicators to build a smart city based on the inputs of WeGO members. 
Addis Ababa Officials at the WeGO eGovFrame Technical Training & Service Program

Two officials from Addis Ababa visited Seoul to take part in the WeGO eGovFrame Technical Training and Service Program. WeGO and the National Information Society Agency (NIA), provided a comprehensive training to help the officials from Addis Ababa develop web and mobile e-Government applications based on the WeGO eGovFrame. Other cities interested in receiving the complimentary Technical Training on the WeGO eGovFrame can contact the WeGO Secretariat. More information can be found here.
WeGO Welcomes Five New Members
 
WeGO is pleased to welcome five new Associate Members to the WeGO network! Baguio (Philippines), Bharatpur (Nepal), Cauayan (Philippines), Kigali (Rwanda), and Mugla (Turkey) will become Full Members of WeGO after receiving the approval of the Executive Committee Members, who are scheduled to meet at the upcoming Executive Committee Meeting in Beyoğlu, Turkey in October. 
Training Programs with the Seoul Human Resource Development Center
Seoul, Korea

 
The Seoul Human Resource Development Center (SHRDC), WeGO's partner for the popular e-Government Training Program in Seoul, is organizing  a number of additional training programs on other city-related topics, such as urban transportation, urban management, and water management. Details on these programs can be found on the SHRDC website here and interested officials should submit their applications by April 30, 2016. WeGO will make a separate call for applications on the specialized e-Government Training Program for WeGO members, which is scheduled to take place in May 2016, very shortly.
International IT Conference Stachka!

Stachka! (The Strike!), the largest IT conference in Russia, will be held from April 22-23 in Ulyanovsk Region. It is estimated to bring together over 3,500 IT experts, CIOs, business community representatives, and students from all over the world to discuss various ICT topics. The Government of the Ulyanovsk Region is warmly inviting WeGO members to serve as speakers and participants at the event. 5th Ovum Smart to Future Cities and Urban IoT Forum

Ovum, WeGO's new Friendship Partner, is organizing the 5th Smart to Future Cities and Urban IoT Forum, the only city-centric event in Europe which will bring together a stellar line up of city decision makers, smart city visionaries, and expert speakers to successfully marry the social and environmental vision with the latest technology solutions. Around 400 senior city executives are expected to attend the event to see the latest and exciting smart city innovations from across the globe and discover the next big idea. Launch of the WeGO Video Page
 
The WeGO Secretariat launched the WeGO Video Page on the WeGO Website, which features footage of past WeGO events such as the WeGO General Assembly, Executive Committee Meeting, WeGO Trainings and Webinars, and WeGO Sessions in various forums and conferences. From now on, WeGO members all around the world will have the chance to “virtually attend” all significant WeGO programs, through this new and exciting feature! City e-Government Diagnostic and Solution (CeDS) Online Platform
 
The WeGO Secretariat encourages its members to use the CeDS Online Platform, a diagnostic tool to help members analyze their city e-Government maturity and identify key action items without the help of outside experts. The platform is exclusive to WeGO members and can be used up to 4 times a year to check the development progress of a city’s e-Government environment and to formulate effective development strategies. Members who have not received their log-in credentials should contact the WeGO Secretariat.
New Faces at the WeGO Secretariat
New Administrative Director: Mr. Belmasio Kwon
Mr. Kwon is a seconded officer from the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG). As having lived in Seoul his whole life, he is devoted to serving his hometown as an exemplary civil officer. In his 14-year career at SMG, he has worked in various divisions like the External Cooperation Division and the Eco-Friendly Meal Division, among others. He dreams of seeing his family live in a happy and peaceful environment, thus he works hard in making Seoul and worldwide cities in the WeGO network a better place to live.
New Administrative Officer: Mr. Johnny Lee
Prior to being seconded to WeGO, Johnny worked in Seoul’s Human Resource Development Division, and more recently, the Seoul Station 7017 project, the green transformation of the Seoul Station Overpass, which he believes will serve as the most beautiful landmark in Seoul when completed and will help revive the local economy. Outside of work, he likes to explore the great outdoors.
