6th transnational consortium meeting: getting used to the “new normal”

On March 3rd 2021, the FOSTEX consortium held its sixth meeting. The online meeting offered the opportunity to update all partners on the technical progress and next steps of the project, including an overview on the status of the submitted and due deliverables. As the COVID-19 pandemic still limits the social gatherings, plan B’s are envisioned to execute the upcoming roundtables to be held in Jordan and Morocco in summer: the events may be organised in a hybrid format having online and onsite participants. The project’s interim conference is planned to be held in October hoping that vaccinations on mayor scale may allow a physical event. The date for the next consortium meeting has been set in July 2021, with the prospect that at least some of the partners may be able to travel. Updates from the advanced textile centre: equipment installed at ESITH!

Good news is joining from the Moroccan consortium partner ESITH: the purchasing process launched last year, while SARS-CoV-2 managed to block almost all activities, has been concluded and ESITH upgraded its existing innovation centre with the new FOSTEX equipment. By installing eight (8) new types of appliances, the centre has now the capacity to evaluate the performance of advanced textiles. In addition, the centre will provide companies of the sector with support and training services on advanced textile offering a tangible opportunity for the development of the Moroccan textile sector. The new equipment allows the characterization of mechanical, thermal and hydraulic properties of nonwovens used in construction and civil engineering. Whereas, additional appliances allow the production of bi-component fibres for the development of functional textile and the development of thermoplastic composites for the use in transportation. Finally, IR spectroscopy can be now used to analyse the fibrous composition of various samples.

UNIWA promotes FOSTEX to an international audience of stakeholders

Project partner UNIWA seized the opportunity to communicate FOSTEX to an international audience of relevant stakeholders, again, in the very beginning of 2021 participating to the SMARTEX SEMINAR for capacity building of academic staff. The 1st training of trainers online seminar of the EU Project “Modernization of curriculum of Textile Engineering and Textile Technology in Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan”, in short “SMARTEX”, took place from January 11 to 14. Prof. Priniotakis - UNIWA’s reference person also for FOSTEX - presented the activities of FOSTEX project during the discussion with the attendees of the seminar, being all academic staff of the participating Universities.

FOSTEX promoted at the T-CREPE e-seminar for trainers

The aim of the Erasmus+ project “Textile Engineering for Co-creation Paradigms in Education”, in short T-CREPE, is to develop an innovative web-based, open-source platform to support co-creation-based learning and coaching in remote teaching environments with a focus on entrepreneurship in textile design engineering. The platform is based on the constructionist learning theory and the principle of game-based learning. Professor Georgios Priniotakis, reference person for FOSTEX at University of West Attica (UNIWA), caught the opportunity to present the activities of FOSTEX project during the e-seminar “Focus on students – feelings of ownership in co-creation” which took place from November 9 to 13, 2020. The event offered a great occasion to disseminate the FOSTEX results to a broad, international audience and allow some important networking beyond the direct stakeholders of the consortium.
