Meeting this Tuesday

I know February is the shortest month – but where did it go?  There’s a monthly meeting just around the corner!  This TUESDAY!  Yes – with the Family Day holiday on Monday our regular monthly meeting has been moved to the next day.

Monthly Meeting – This Tuesday – Feb 19

And who’s coming?

Sam the Gem Man!

Many of you will recognize Samrat Kapur as a regular vender at our local bead and gem shows.  Sam usually has a huge table laden with beautiful semi-precious gems and pearls for sale.   In this presentation you will learn from an expert how to recognize and select the best gemstone beads on the market, and how to incorporate them into your work.

And then learn how to make beautiful earrings using a selection of Sam’s Gems.
An evening to brighten up the dreariest February weather!  Bring your tools and a bead mat to work on.  In no time you will have a beautiful pair of Briolette earrings made from Sam’s semi-precious stones.

Briolet Earrings

Bring a round nose and a chain nose plyer, plus a wire cutter.   If you have extras please bring them along to share if a neighbour doesn’t have a tool.

Kit Fee - $15 for members, $20 for non-members

Just for practice we found an excellent YouTube video on how to make a wrapped loop on a Briolette stone that you might like to review in advance.  Our earrings might not look exactly like these earrings in the video but the wrapping technique used will be the same.

And at the Guelph Museum – Special Exhibition

museum Artist Naomi Smith has embellished everyday objects using traditional Indigenous beadwork techniques and imagery.  We live in a world where materialism is no longer about practical functionality.  Logos and brands have become the symbols that define our importance in society. Indianized adds to this phenomenum in unusual and visually intriguing ways, while embracing the Traditions of the Woodlands Indigenous people.
