Filigree PendantAnd we are sharing our new tricks with GRBS members.  We have (with Betty's permission) put together a fun little project where you will learn some bead embroidery skills which incorporate a lovely brass filigree.

We have a limited edition of only 18 kits for students so please sign up early.  We will take the first 18 names and start a waiting list.  You must collect and pay for your kit by 6:55 the evening of the class.  If you haven't collected your kit by 7 pm we'll sell it to the next person on the waiting list.  Sorry this class is only open to GRBS members.  Non-members will be added to the waiting list only.

So if you are coming to the meeting and would like to take part in our project please send an email to  Sue will send you back your number on the list or your position on the waiting list.  All members on the waiting list will receive a set of the class notes if no kit is available.

If you prefer just to join the GRBS meeting but not participate in the project you are very welcome join us for the slide show with our class samples and to observe the class - or better yet - bring your own project to work on.
Class participants should bring a beading mat and pair of sharp scissors.

Last Month - Techniques Night

If you missed last month you missed a wonderful evening of beading, learning and fun!  Techniques night is one of the best nights of the season with a selection of classes taught by members on various jewellery-making techniques.
This time we had Bead Crochet, Kumihimo, Paper Quilling, Bead embroidery taught by generous members willing to share their skills.

Techniques Night

Also at this meeting the GRBS presented a cheque to the Women’s shelter with the proceeds of the Christmas ornament sales.  It warms your heart to know we can all help!  And we need to all count our blessings…. (I know we all count beads – but we are very fortunate to be able to share our good fortune.)

And of course there was treats to share!  Thanks to everyone who brought in treats to share.  A great way to start the holiday season!

If you saw another technique you would like to learn but couldn’t be in two classes at once in December, the same classes will be offered again in March – so look for the sign ups next month.

Can you suggest another Charity Project for this year?

Cheque presentation
Our Christmas tree ornament charity project was successful with Guelph Women in Crisis being the recipient of $275 and the remaining ornaments donated to the residents to help make their Christmas just a little bit better.

Put your thinking cap on and nominate a charity to receive the proceeds of the 2019 project.

Nominations open at January/February/March meetings with final decision by Board in April/May.

And we're also looking for suggestions for another project for this year.  Have you got some ideas on how we can support your favourite charity?

If you ordered name tags from Mary-Lynn she will have them available at the January meeting.

February 19 Meeting – Save the date!

GemantraSamrat Kapur from Gemantra: Demystifying Gemstones
I’m sure you will recognize Sam when you meet him.  He has been a very active bead vendor for years in the Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara area.  And you’ve met him at all the bead shows!
Sam has opened a new bead store in Niagara but is coming to speak to us about gem stones and how to recognize the best ones.

Plan to attend this meeting.
