Welcome Back!
Our first Meeting of the season!

Date:  September 17, 2018
Time:  7 pm – 9 pm
Location:  Hampton Inn
725 Imperial Rd. N, Guelph

Christmas Ornament Charity Project

ornamentsOne of the Bead Society’s initiatives is to support the Guelph Women in Crisis services.  With this goal we started the Christmas Ornament Project last year.  We asked members to make and donate Christmas ornaments which will be sold at the Bead Show & Sale in October for $5 each.
Ornaments made suitable to grace a Christmas tree, a gift package or card, etc.
The first half of the meeting will be to show and share the Christmas ornaments that have been made.
The second half of the meeting will be spent making more ornaments as well as having the finished ornaments photographed.
Please be prepared to participate in this fun and meaningful project by bringing a beading mat, scissors, a task light, extra beading supplies and any printed copies of instructions for making ornaments.

Suggestion for Ornament patterns
A Needle Pulling Thread magazine, Festive 2013 edition, is devoted to ornaments of all kinds.
GRBS has permission from Brenda Franklin for our guild members to use her Beaded Medallion ornament (pg.80) design to make for our sale. If you have a copy of this magazine, please bring it along or bring any other patterns you might have.  There will be a few copies of this pattern at the meeting.

Classes
There are several classes available for sign-up at our September meeting.  See the project samples and plan your day at the Bead Show & Sale with a class or two.

We need your help promoting the Bead Show & Sale.
This is a major fund-raiser for the Bead Society.  If the Bead Show doesn’t make money we won’t have as many fun meetings with speakers and projects.
  • Tell your friends
  • Take the promotional post cards and hand them out.
  • Know a bulletin board that allows community postings?  Post it up there.
  • Know someplace what will let us leave the post cards?  Leave some there.
  • And on-line – share, like and comment on our postings.

Membership Renewal time – if you missed it in June

Time to either renew or join the Bead Society at the September meeting.  You don’t want to miss any of the fun evenings planned.  The yearly membership fee is $45.
Membership includes monthly meetings from September to June. Some meetings require a kit or project fee depending on the class offered.
We proud that our membership fee has remained unchanged for the last few years and thank our membership for their ongoing support.
Here's how to join or renew.

The Bead Society needs your help!

membershipWe lost a member of the Executive due to health reasons and we will be starting the season missing a Membership Co-ordinator.  Can you help?

A very important role – often the first person members and potential members meet.  Needs to be a welcoming, organized individual, available to attend monthly meetings and 3 or 4 Executive meetings annually.  Has good computer skills with Word and Excel to keep track of members and guests, handle membership applications and fees, and assist Program Co-ordinator at the sign in desk.  And helping out where needed – of course!  This position could be handled by two members in a Team if needed.

We are a legal Not-For-Profit and all our Executive roles need to be filled.
For more information please talk with Sherry Stockton – GRBS President.

Volunteers needed!

Yes, the Grand River Bead Society will be at Ancaster Fair Grounds, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 - 5 each day.  And we need Volunteers to sign up who are willing to be at the table for two hours, a half day, or all day.  You will be sitting at the Bead Society table working on any bead or jewellery project you like and providing information to visitors about the Bead Society.  Easy and fun!
Sign up at the September meeting – or contact Marilyn Clayton at volunteers18.grbs@gmail.com and let her know your availability.  It is a fun time promoting GRBS. All help gratefully appreciated.
P.S. – free admission as a volunteer.

Library Display Cases

libraryDuring the week of September 23, our marketing coordinator (Roxann) will be creating a display for Guelph's Westminster Library showcase and would like membership submissions to advertise our group and the bead show.
Items will be removed the week of October 20 (or any time sooner if required).  Each piece of jewellery or beadwork should be labeled with contact information and brought to the September 17 meeting. Pictures will be taken of the showcase contents and (perhaps) added to a future newsletter.
Other News – We have some very talented members of GRBS!
