ISSUE 04
Aug 8, 2016

Hi and welcome to the 4th issue of TLDR! Today we dive into a familiar topic that plagues my life and probably most of yours. It starts with a P and rhymes with stination—it’s not what you’re thinking of, I promise.

Missed last week’s issue? Get caught up here. Also, I’m restructuring some things on my site and part of that includes building an archive of all past TLDR issues for you guys to have access to. Stay with me, good TLDRers—it’s not yet fully operational.

Goals, amirite?

We all have hopes and dreams, but when was the last time you thought about your next goal? I was chatting in an internet forum yesterday about what goals mean and why they’re important—specifically how they relate projects and social media presence.

Okay, set time and money aside for a moment—what do you want to do and what does that look like?

If you can determine what your goal is, you can ensure everything you do, make, tweet, render and ‘gram is in service of that goal and not wasted effort. You can also study those who have achieved a similar goal and dissect the steps they took to get there.

“If you don't know where you are going,
you'll end up someplace else.”
- Yogi Berra

This is no easy task. It takes a lot of time and consistent effort to get there. And you will encounter your fair share of obstacles.

Pro_ _ _ _stination

Speaking of obstacles, let's talk about a specific one we can all relate to:

Everyone understands procrastination. And if you’re anything like me, you will go out of your way to do EVERYTHING except the one thing you know you should do first.

But, me being me, I found a way to justify procrastination—by doing something else that is productive. I like to call it Producstination.

Let's say you have a bi-monthly newsletter you’ve committed to writing. It’s Sunday evening and you know you should probably start writing it, but you can’t help thinking how much easier it would be if you could just clean your bathroom first.

That’s producstination.

I catch myself doing it all the time. Starting a new project? Try organizing your clothes by color. Need to write an important email? Why not clear your Downloads folder instead! Believe me when I say that I have mastered this concept.

My point is, do not be fooled by this clever justification. Wrestle your instinct into submission and do the most difficult thing first, because it will only get easier from there.

Super fun game! It’s basically soccer with cars.
(And yes, that’s as great as you think it is)
