Welcome to December! Only a few weeks to go until break time. There are a number of events to note this month and next:

Deadline is TODAY to apply for the Colorado Dept of Education Gifted Education State Advisory Committee. GE-SAC is accepting applications for various districts and member positions. See the website for details.

JAGC has a holiday fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 4. Please support our kids by shopping in person at the Colorado Mills Barnes & Noble from 9 AM-9 PM or online. Thank you for your support!

CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) parent virtual seminar is Dec. 8. Topics include understanding the data and the GT identification and Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) process. 

Enroll Jeffco opens Dec. 13. Round 1 enrollment runs through Jan. 14, 2022.

“Planning for High School and Beyond” webinar from JAGC is Jan. 13. Register on the JAGC website. Spread the word!

Parent/Family Learning Night from the Jeffco GT Dept. will be Jan. 26. There will be several breakout sessions.

“Planning for High School and Beyond” Webinar Jan. 13 

Planning for middle school, high school and post-high school? Register to attend JAGC’s webinar on Thursday, Jan. 13 from 6:30-7:30 PM. Topics will include pathways and course options, college planning and other considerations. Submit your questions to the presenters in advance by Dec. 17.

Upcoming webinars will be “New to GT: What Families Need to Know” and “Twice Exceptional: Advocating for Your Students.” More details to come!

Parent/Family Learning Night Jan. 26

The next Parent/Family Learning Night will be Wed., Jan. 26. There will be breakout sessions on ABC’s of ALPs, GT 101, executive functioning, early access, 2e (twice exceptional), social emotional needs of gifted students, and transitions/post-secondary options.

High School Credit for Math and World Languages 

Middle school students who are taking high school math and world languages can now receive high school credit (Spanish I, Spanish II, French I, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II). Later in the spring, schools will send home a form for families to opt in for credit. For more information, contact your school counselor. See details on the program. 

Advanced Learning Plan Monitoring Begins

Schools should be starting the Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) progress monitoring phase. For more information regarding ALPs, visit our Advanced Learning Plan website. Contact your GT Resource Teacher with questions. 

Enroll Jeffco Opens Dec. 13

Round one enrollment for the 2022-23 school year opens Dec. 13 in Enroll Jeffco. See the flyer for more details (English | Spanish). Round 1 for the 2022-23 school year is Dec. 13, 2021 to Jan. 14, 2022. Round 2 opens Feb. 20, 2022. Choice application offers will go out in late January.

New Mental Health Resource for Students

The Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health, and partners have launched I Matter, a program that pairs youth with mental health professionals. It’s a place for youth to find someone to talk to for free if they've been feeling down or just want to make sense of their emotions. Visit IMatterColorado.org to learn more.

Jeffco Writing Challenge - Submit Entries by Feb. 15

The Jeffco Writing Challenge is open to all Jefferson County School students in K-12. Poetry, short stories, nonfiction and dramas are all welcome. Deadline for submissions is Feb. 25.  See the website for details.

Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP) Academy Jan. 28-29 and Feb. 5

PEP Academy Online will be presented via live on Zoom and pre-recorded Moodle sessions.Colorado Dept. of Education plans conferences throughout the year that are family-centered and designed to offer support, information, and education to parents and professionals. See FAQs about PEP for more information.

Save the Date! CAGT Legislative Day Feb. 24 and Senior Day March 10

Legislative Day is a virtual event for students in grades 9-12. New this year: senior day in person at the Capitol on March 10. See the CAGT website for details.

Conversations with CAGT - Tuesdays at 5 PM
