Our Dojo is planning to return to the mats soon; tentatively from Monday May 25.
There are a few administrative and COVID precautions we must consider and put in place for the safety of our student, instructors and general community. We will be providing you with details later this week, with confirmation of the above date for commencement.
In the meantime, students can start conditioning themselves, to mitigate any chances of injury for when classes do start.
Simple ways you can improve or maintain your stamina with low risks of injury are cycling, power walking and even your solo martial arts drills. Cycling at a level that you feel is a challenge but just achievable for 30 to 60 minutes is ideal. Power walking is starting off in a light jog then maintaining this pace with a walking action again, at a level that is challenging your comfort zone but achievable for 30 to 60 minutes.
Performing your kata can also be used. This will work well with a timer. Perform your kata with purpose, rest for as long as it takes to complete and repeat or move to the next one. Keep this up for 30 to 60 minutes.
Your cycling or power walking routines can also be done in a similar manner with equal bouts of a level that is almost easy and a level that you would struggle to maintain for much longer than the specific interval. This will be highly individual. Some of you will find you recover faster so will prefer intervals of 60 seconds each at the higher and lower ends while others may find the intervals of 3 minutes is more suitable or even anything in between. Whatever way you decide on, make sure you can stick to it 3 or 5 times a week.
Your flexibility can be maintained in 15 mins per bout. Just find a stretch for each body part, front and back that is at your current level. Hold each one for around 12 seconds and repeat the routine 3 times.
Keeping your fitness at a level that allows you to hit the mats when we kick off again doesn't need to be complex, it just needs to be consistent. It will be worth it, trust me.
