Traffic Meeting - Wednesday, April 5

RARA continues to work through the community’s concerns about traffic safety with the City, police, and Councillor Josh Matlow’soffice.
All the details on what we’ve been working on can be found here

For those who are interested, the next meeting to move forward on neighbourhood traffic concerns will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday April 5 at 188 Cottingham Street. At this meeting, we expect to hear updates from City officials on the items that were raised for further investigation at our last meeting in December

Please let Kendra ( know if you plan to attend.

Spring Clean Up - Saturday, April 8

Help make the neighbourhood lovely for spring!

Join us at Hardy's Corners at 10 a.m. on Saturday April 8 for coffee and donuts. Bring your rakes, a leaf bag, gloves, and an industrious spirit and we will clean the Pump Park for the kids Easter egg hunt, as well as lanes and parkettes around the neighbourhood. We should be done by noon. All are welcome!

Have a high school student who needs to log some Community Service hours? We are happy to sign off on those for students who participate!

Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday, April 15

This year’s Easter egg hunt will take place on Saturday, April 15.  Here’s how it works:

To participate, you can pick up plastic eggs from Grace McSorley’s front porch at 169 Cottingham Street any time after April 8. Fill the eggs with small chocolates, stickers, or other nut-free treats (10 for every child in your family who will be participating, please!), then drop off the filled eggs at Grace’s any time until 9 a.m. on Saturday April 15.

A small team will head to the pump park at 9:30 a.m. to hide the eggs.

Everyone will meet at Hardy’s Corner just before 10 a.m. and the kids will be released into the pump park all together at 10 a.m. sharp (and they are speedy – it usually takes them about 15 minutes to find all the eggs, so make sure you arrive in time so you don’t miss out!)

If you plan to participate, please send an email to Grace (, letting her know how many children will be participating from your family, whether you need plastic eggs to fill, and if you’re able to help hide eggs in the park on the morning of the 15th

If you know of any new families in the neighbourhood or children who will be visiting, please welcome them to join us (and let Grace know!)

AGM - Tuesday, May 16

Mark your calendars! We’ve confirmed this year’s AGM for Tuesday, May 16 from 7-9 pm. The meeting will be held at the Davy’s house (18 McMaster Avenue).

Join us for a full update on what RARA has been up to over the past year and a chance to catch up with your neighbours.

An agenda will be circulated closer to the date of the meeting.

Lane Names Update

After a very close round of voting, the “history” naming scheme squeaked out on top. But with one of the lane names from the “history” list already in use elsewhere in the city, and support for the “artists” naming scheme so strong among voters, the final names for Rathnelly’s lanes will combine the two naming schemes – a solution with a little something for everyone!

For the final list of lane names and corresponding map (and all the background info you could hope for!), check out the Lane Names page on the RARA website.

We’re working closely with the City and with Councillor Josh Matlow’s office and hope to have the signs in place and ready to be unveiled at this year’s Rathnelly Day celebrations. Stay tuned!

Construction on Poplar Plains

It’s spring in Toronto, which can only mean one thing: the construction and digging have already started!
Toronto Hydro is updating the underground electrical infrastructure on the area between Poplar Plains and Huron to the East and West, and Macpherson and Davenport to the North and South. Construction notices including all relevant contact information can be found herehere, and here
RARA has been watching this project closely because of community concerns about traffic, parking and a desire to minimize the impacts on the Pump Park this summer (especially for Rathnelly Day!).
Anything that we learn about the status and progress of this project will be shared on the RARA blog, so be sure to check in there for news and updates.

Missing Cat

Have you seen this cat? Last seen on the evening of April 1 in front of 23 Rathnelly, across from Hardy's Corners. Neighbours are asked to check their garages, yards, etc. to see if he's hiding there. Please notify Scott ( if you find him.
