Quote of the month
'The attack has made me even more sure of what I am doing and why I should continue. My fight is for the poor people, for the survival of our people and the environment. If the government does its duty, there is no need for people like us,' said Agnes Kharshiing, a woman human rights defenders from India, in the #TogetherWeDefend campaign.
The campaign
#TogetherWeDefend was launched by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Michel Forst, to contribute to this change of narrative and to recognise the important role played by human rights defenders worldwide. Click here to support the campaign.
The 40th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council took place from 25 February to 22 March 2019. Over the four-week session, FORUM-ASIA delivered or supported nine oral statements. It also organised six side events on the situations in India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, as well as on women human rights defenders; freedom of expression and of religion or belief in the digital age; and new authoritarianism and its implications to human rights and civil society.
