Here's to 2016 - 150th Anniversary of the West Pier & BAi360 Liftoff!
With the opening of the BAi360 in the summer and the pier's 150th Anniversary in the autumn, 2016's double celebration will make it the most important year in the Trust's history. After decades of hopes dashed and achievement undermined finally the West Pier site will reawaken and resume its identity at the centre of Brighton & Hove's vibrant seafront.

Another milestone was achieved on 13th January when the final section of the pod was put in place. The pod was built and installed by Poma but the glass came from Italian firm Sunglass. Read more about the process on BAi360's blog. Work continues on the base building and locals will be excited to see the timber frames of the toll booths taking shape.

Since the start of the build Brighton artist Lisa has been regularly documenting the stages of BAi360 construction. She creates a an accessible, fun and accurate visual story of the build starting with the digging of the foundations and finishing, she says, with the first ride on the attraction. Seafront Arch

For many years the Trust's office and base was in a Portakabin on the root end of its site. Due to the instability of the structure, five years ago regrettably we had to leave the seafront - and overnight the Trust's presence and profile vanished from its site.So we're delighted that this year we will be taking a lease on one of the Council's beautifully restored arches, east of BAi360, re-establishing our presence on what will become the busiest part of Brighton & Hove's seafront The arch will function as our office, shop and information point. We're developing plans for how to make the most of the space and will keep you updated.

150th Anniversary

The West Pier opened to the public in October 1866. We intend to celebrate its 150th anniversary with a series of public events in the autumn which we hope will stimulate and entertain . We're still at the planning stage at the moment but as soon as events are firmed up, details will be announced.
