Neals Yard
Hari Om!
Welcome to December...how did that happen!  I hope your preparations are well underway and you are organised.  Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas and healthy 2016.  I have reduced the number of cards I am sending and the presents I buy so I can add more usefully to the Nepal fund!  I really hope you have a joyous festive season.

If you are free on the eve of 28th December why not come and join me for an evening of relaxation and rejuevenation...I am doing a class at 7pm in Allestree Memorial Hall.  Details are below.

Lots and lots going on this month.  Plans for the Nepal trip in April are becoming much clearer.  I only want to take 8 of us, and as I write there are 3 places left!

Very excited to be organising a Shamanic Yoga workshop for March 13th.  This is being lead by Leah Bracknell and is suitable for all abilities.  The investment for the day is £65.  I am still sorting the venue out, but you can read more and book here >>

I have a new class starting in Heanor on 7th January.  Acorn Natural Health Centre is a new venture for Sally Race so I am really pleased to be part of it.  If you would like to book onto the classes do let me know.  They will be Thursday 12.30pm to 2pm and the venue is 17a Market Place, Heanor DE75 7AA.

Funds for Nepal are still coming in...see below!  I have also had an update from Himalayan Trust UK.  The file is too big to put on here but if you want a read let me know and I can email it over to you.  Essentially they are rebuilding schools and every penny is being spent in Nepal...no money raised will be spent in the UK.

Neals Yard Organic Remedies are offering 20% off everything on Wednesday 2nd December...see below. Let me know if you want anything as I will be placing an order.

All classes are running until 22nd December and we return to class on 4th January 2016.

Sending you love, joy and peace.

Namaste

'Make me strong in spirit
Courageous in action
Gentle of heart
Let me act in wisdom
Conquer my fear and doubt
Discover my own hidden gifts
Meet others with compassion
Be a source of healing energies
And face each day with hope and joy.'
~ A Prayer by Abby Willowroot

I Am Not Old
I am not old…she said
I am rare.
I am the standing ovation
At the end of the play.
I am the retrospective
Of my life as art
I am the hours
Connected like dots
Into good sense
I am the fullness
Of existing.
You think I am waiting to die…
But I am waiting to be found
I am a treasure.
I am a map.
And these wrinkles are
Imprints of my journey
Ask me anything.

Fundraising for Nepal

To date the total raised has reached £10200
I cannot believe the generosity of everyone involved in reaching this huge amount.  This month it was seriously boosted by a generous donation from Julie Nelstrop following her Yoga Retreat Weekend.  You can read more about what and where here >>
I have had an update from Himalayan Trust UK on the work they are doing and although the file is too big to include here I am happy to email it to you.  I will have a copy in class with me this month if you want to browse through it.  Essentially they are school building and the rebuild will happen from March 2016 now that the groundwork has happened.
I am meeting with Ann and Simon on 10th December to discuss the work they are planning and how we can help.  The two little girls I mentioned last month have now been supported by another charity which is great news.  But it looks like we could be helping a charity that look after disabled children as one of my lovely ladies (Anne-Marie) has recently been in Nepal working with them.  There is more detail about them here >>.

December 28th - 7.00pm to 9.00pm - Heavenly Relaxation

Christmas will have happened and there is a likelihood that you really don't want to go back to work yet! There is probably still a hundred things to do - that's how things are these days.
So, this is an opportunity for you to take some time out, leave all the prepartions and stress behind for an evening, and treat yourself to peace and quiet.

I invite you to join me for a blissful, candle light evening of complete relaxation, a chance to de-stress and let go of all your worries in a nurturing, tranquil environment to soothe and restore. A chance to focus entirely on yourself, and recharge.

You will be guided through gentle yoga asanas, gentle breathing exercise, yoga nidra relaxation and meditation. A peaceful and restorative evening for the whole being.

January 16th - 10am to 12.30pm - Meditation for Change

We arrive in 2016, there isn't really any space between 2015 and 2016 but we seem to need to make promises we rarely keep!  I get asked a lot about the difference between mindfulness and meditation and even concentration.  So lets look at it...what are they all about.  We will have time for a discussion on it and how you feel.  Then we will take it simply to look at them, with practice and see if we can move towards a simple meditation.  For those that already meditate this is a reminder, but itme to practice in a group, which does make your meditation deeper on some levels.  So we don't get too caught up in the head I will also use a little sound.  There will be a short asana practice.

February 13th - 10am to 12.30pm - Introduction to Bandha

'Jalandhara bandha, uddiyana bandha and moola bandha are situated respectively, in the throat, abdomen and perineum.  If their duration can be increased then where is the fear of death?' ~ Yagataravali (Sutra 5; Sri Adi Shankaracharya)

Bandha means to hold or tighten and they affect the pranic energy of the body.  They directly influence the three granthis or psychic knots, which in turn prevent the free flow of energy or prana along sushumna nadi.  See how it is all interconnected!  We will look at the bandhas and granthis both via discussion but also practice.
This class is only suitable to those that have been practicing yoga for two or more years
.

Craniosacral Therapy
One of my lovely students, Jen Dexter, has completed all her training and is available for craniosacral therapy, here in Derby.  It helps to rebalance the whole body and is deeply relaxing.  If you fancy trying it, talk to Jen and I am sure you will be well looked after.
More details on her website.
Quinoa Salad
Last month's recipe for tumeric went well so this month I thought I would share something for Quinoa (keenwah!) as I really like it and it is so good for us.  Serve warm or cold.  Jazz it up...you can add whatever you like to it ....left over brussels?!

Click here for the recipe and enjoy your feast.
Kapalbhati Breath
So, for the last couple of weeks we have been working with this breath.  For some of you it has just been a refresher; for others huge belly laugh making; and some of you it is taking a little longer to get the rhythm of it!
Here is a reminder on why and how to do it.
Don't forget, make the connection to your tummy.  Let it roll.
Meditation
Those of you who know me well know that meditation has been a huge help to me over the years.
This is a short practice to help you get started.  You can do inside or outside.  Make sure that you will not be distracted.
You can always come along to the Wednesday class at 6pm!
