Hari Om!

This was taken the day after our Holistic Day for Nepal....blowing away the cobwebs with my lovely friend Cherry...we were on Froggetts Edge in beautiful Derbyshire.  Love it up there - just what we needed after such a busy day.
I keep saying thank you to everyone as I don't know what else to do.  Without all the support the day would not have been possible.  From Katie Gibson giving us the space at the University, the therapists and teachers giving up a day of earning potential, all the bakers who supplied enough cakes to keep several shops going, everyone who supplieditems for the raffle and auction, the stall holders who provided us with huge shopping potential of beautiful things and of course the army of helpers on the day and in the weeks beforehand.  You are all stars and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  So does Nepal....the final figure raised is £4312.  Although money is still coming in which is wonderful.

A formal thank you and details of all those who supplied services on the day can be found here.  If you missed seeing someone, or forgot to take their details or you want to hire them for another event - they will be really pleased to hear from you!  Details for a coupleof people are missing and I apologise for that but I just couldn't get them in time despite trying.

I am now finding my feet again, as the event has been consuming my life for the last couple of months!! In a great way.  Nick and I have a holiday coming up so there are no classes during the weeks 28th September and 5th October...back to normal 12th October...all the way to Christmas.

There is a masterclass on October 24th...exploring the mantra OM.  The class will be from 10am to 12.30pm, but those of you who love crafting can stay...or arrive, for an afternoon of making things and eating cake!  I would like to be shown how to crochet!!!

Since the last newsletter I have also been in France!  This was my first week long Yoga Holiday.  It was lovely...great venue and the weather was really kind to us.  I met some lovely new people too...very brave of them to come along when they didn't know my teaching.  I am planning the next one now...and also the April departure to Nepal.  See below for details about the Nepal trip.

Due to the Nepal Adventure trip being in April, I have had to move my Wortley Hall retreat weekend to March.  Same great venue but it will now be weekedn of March 18th.  I also have a weekend retreat booked for July 29th at Willersley castle, Cromford and I will be sharing this with my friend Sue Stockwell as she will be teaching us about astrology and what it means to us, using Jyotish astrology (that may be the wrong terminology!) - but it is really interesting and accurate.  She is a master at keeping it simple too.  For more information on both retreat weekends click here.

Lots of exciting of my life.  I am really enjoying teaching to those in the Coping with Cancer group in Loughborough, and the Derby Women's Centre, and I am hopful there are a couple more things in the pipeline along these lines.  I would also love to take relaxation and gentle movement into the workplace so am working on something to do with that.  If you have any leads for me...would be glad to hear from you!

Have a wonderful month and I really hope to see you in class at some point.

The secret of making something work in your life is, first of all, the deep desire to make it work.
Then the faith and belief that it can work.
Then hold that clear definite vision in your consciousness and see it working out step by step, without one thought of doubt or disbelief. ~ Eileen Caddy

Sending you love, joy and peace.

Class Schedule

Please note there are NO CLASSES during the weeks of 28th September and 5th October.

You can see my class schedule here.

A couple of articles for you to read if you are interested.  Both appeared in the Derby Telegraph during the last month.
Master Classes
All master classes will be held in Allestree Memorial Hall, 1 Cornhill, Allestree. Derby. DE22 2GG
£15 per session.
October 24th - 10am to 12.30pm - Discovering with the Mantra OM
"The word OM is the Universe. Everything that exists in the past, present and future is OM. And that which exists beyond the threefold division of time is OM" ~ Mandukyo Upanishad
We use OM in every class, but this moring I will explain a little more about it and the actual symbol.  You will also use asana with OM and we will incorporate OM into our pranayama practice.  No session on OM would be complete without chanting OM, so we will have some fun around that.
~13.00 to 16.00~
For those that wish to stay we are having a 'crafting' session during the afternoon.  The idea is that we eat our own packed lunches and then share crafting skills.  Do let me know if you are coming...just some fun time to share skills.  Think we have knitters, crochet, beadwork, sewing, painting....
November 28th - 10am to 12.30pm - Stillness and Dynamism
Autumn is the season of great change, harvests are coming in and the excess of summer has gone. We start to welcome the opportunity to look inward. Just as the trees release their leaves before tucking in for winter, this is a time for us to create space.
The lungs transform oxygen into energy, and the large intestine releases waste. Energetically, the lungs relate to our ability to accept and move on, while the large intestine helps us cope with separation -- easing us gracefully into the quieter pace of autumn.
So we will work with a practice that is based around Yin yoga to deepen and release.  It will be a steady, perhaps slow practice, holding postures a little longer than we normally would...but great to notice how we transform physically and mentally.

December 28th - 7.00pm to 9.00pm - Reflections
The call for peace is a powerful means of restoring order and purpose. It calms agitation, strengthens our inner resolve, and nurtures the sense of ease that allows us to perform our actions skillfully, and with full heart.
Come and join me for a class where we will share OM Shanti in a relaxed and nurtured way.  Remembering ourselves and honouring those with us and without us.  The intention is this will be a deeply relaxing session.

Nepal Holiday 2016

Hot off the press is that I have finally booked my flights and set the date for our trip to Nepal.  Flying out on April 6th and returning 21st April.  If you would like to join me you do need to book your flight as soon as possible to get a good price.  I have to still finalise the itinerary but the details I have so far can be found here.
Yoga Mats
I still have lots of these!!
Warrior mats, 4mm thick with good grip and washable in the machine.
They are £13 each (normally £19), colours as below.
Let me know your preference and I will bring to class.
Warrior Mat II4 - Mixed Box of 12
We all need to take care of ourselves in some way and as many of you know I go on and on and on about the feet!  I am really fortunate to have Mel Horsey in my class and she is a great reflexologist.  You may have met her at our event for Nepal.
Mel provides a Mobile Professional Reflexology Service to Allestree, Darley Abbey, Derby, Duffield, Little Eaton, Littleover, Mackworth, Mickleover, Quarndon and other local areas.
She is a clinical reflexologist providing reflexology for relaxation and wellbeing.
  • Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It is a wonderful way to relax. Alternating pressure is applied to specific points on the feet and can help the body's own healing mechanisms.
  • Call Mel on 07530 312076 or visit her on Face book
How lovely it is to have a massage!  I last treated myself to one with Karen Radford from the Lavender Room.  She is so lovely and it was a really relaxing experience.  She was  with us on the Nepal event providing Indian Head Massages.  If you missed out do get in touch with her, am sure she would love to see you.
Massage is so beneficial on so many levels of our being.  Takes you to new heights!
Details of the treatments Karen offers can be found on her website:
If we work on developing the breath it helps us to destress, reduces anxiety.
Nadi Shodona (alternate nostril breathing) or Samavritti (Square Breath)  help to bring balance into the whole body and mind.
Please do not hold the breath if you are pregnant, have any heart conditions....or if it just does not feel right for you.
In class this week we used chinmaya is the reminder for it.  Sit for up to 15minutes with this practice and watch what happens to the breath when you release the mudra.  It is magic....if you have been paying attention!
Stress and Anxiety
I often get asked about what yoga can do to help us when we feel stressed or are suffering from anxiety. We are all individual and one size does not fit all.  But, the breath is a huge savour to us, as well as mindful movement.  What I am sharing here is a lot of what we have done in class this week (21st Sept 2015).  Try it, remember to move with the breath.  Really slow the movements down so you feel more.  It is not a complete practice but there may be bits you particularly like, so work with them
Let me know how you get on! READ MORE
