Opportunities and Challenges for Solar Thermal Electricity|24Sept, Brussels
We are organising our Summer Workshop on the 24th September in Brussels.
In this year’s edition, we would like to look at the opportunities and challenges of STE market in and beyond Europe, with a simple key target: Europe must achieve a better balance between flexible and non-flexibler renewables in Europe and in this context new STE plant projects must be launched in Europe to demonstrate at larger scale both the benefits of STE and the viability of some already existing legal tools (such as the Cooperation mechanisms)
The new Energy Union proposed an objective for the EU to become number one in renewables. Although STE in Spain is already the market leader of the STE industry in the EU and in the world, the global competition is fierce and many other countries are catching up. So what is needed to keep Europe as number one in STE? Will a STE initiative in Europe help the EU maintain its leadership in renewables? What could be a first-of-its-kind project in Europe? These are the questions upon you to answer.
Moreover, we would also like to take a closer look at how the STE costs relate to the corresponding value of this technology – also beyond the benefits to the European power system. These issues should be addressed if we consider a balanced share between flexible and non-flexible RES in our future energy mix.
Therefore, we call all of you to actively participate in this important event and we believe that this discussion will be help the industry move forward.
