On 20 August 1990 en route to Bergen, Norway the QE2 received a Mayday call that the Norwegian Oil Drilling Platform “West Gamma” was in distress. QE2 offered assistance and proceeded at full speed to the rescue. When the ship reached the rig Captain Warwick was informed that the “West Gamma” crew wanted to remain with the rig and QE2 continued to Bergen. The next day passengers were informed that the rig had capsized but fortunately all crew had been rescued. Forum members who were onboard have posted their memories on the topic. Louis who was a member of the crew has posted the log-book extract for 20 August 1990, which makes fascinating reading.

Other QE2 Rescues:
QE2 rescues passengers from the burning liner "Antilles" off the island of Mustique. Kevin McGhee was onboard ship and later visited the island where he took these photos of the wreck. Read what he posted about the rescue.
As it was Louis who put forward the suggestion for a topic of the month feature, we have selected this topic where Louis, who worked in the QE2 Bar Department from 1990 to 1998, has been answering questions about this important QE2 Department.
Recently he has taken on the forum challenge to design a QE2 cocktail for her 50 year celebrations

Thank you to Myles for suggesting we use Photo Competition photos for "A walk along the QE2 memory deck" Excellent suggestion that we will be using either by including in the newsletter or on a forum topic.
August Photo Competition - QE2 Viewed from high places
Photo: Isabelle Prondzynski
This month's theme is open to your interpretation. It can be views of QE2 from a high place ashore, or views of parts of QE2 from a higher place on the ship.
Some fabulous photos have been uploaded to the Photo Competition Album and it is always interesting to see the interpretation of the theme!
Do you have a winning photo?
Have a look at the instructions and upload your three best photos before the closing date of 31 August 2016.
The prize for the winning photo, is a set of QE2 Stamps from the Isle of Man Post Office. These could be added to the winner's memorabilia collection or framed to make a nice picture.
After voting finishes for the August Competition, Alan Snelson will be working on the design for The QE2 Story 2017 Calendar. Keep watching the forum and newsletters for information on how to purchase.
