Ahoy from the QE2 Story Team

“Travelling on QE2 was an unforgettable honour and pleasure”
31 March 1998

Words that any QE2 passenger could have written but it is humbling that Nelson Mandela choose to write these words about his time on QE2, when he stayed in the Midships Suite on Two Deck. "During his time onboard ship he mingled with passengers, unveiled a plaque, took part in a questions and answers session, attended a fund-raising dinner and was interviewed by Sir David Frost in the Captains Cabin, which was broadcast by the BBC live in the UK." Maybe you were on this voyage and have memories to add to the topic or would just like to read about this memorable visit: Nelson Mandela onboard March 1998

QE2 Plaques

The Hoover Plaque

Have you read this lovely wee nugget of a story in the Wardroom topic?  Rod told us how plaques were presented to ship's company or people who gave presents to the wardroom and that the "Original Wardy plaque was a silhouette of the funnel. It was called the "Hoover" plaque for obvious reason"  Thanks to Boris for posting the photo.

Photo: Lachlan

Memories about memorabilia uncovered this story about how Lachlan went aboard ship with the Pilot in February 2008 and was presented with this plaque by Captain McNaught.  Have a look at Lachlan's story.

QE2 Jigsaw Challenge

The Pride of the Clyde jigsaw is attracting a lot of attention, even the ship's cat wants to get in on the act!

After the Clydeside crew completed their task the tour of UK yards took the jigsaw to Epsom for the next refit.  Work is progressing well and we are looking forward to seeing photos.  Where will the next refit be?  Keep watching the topic and add your name to the jigsaw challenge.

Poll for the February Photo Competition

Voting for the February Photo Competition closes on 1 April, so why not take a few minutes to remember watching QE2 and Flotilla and vote for your three favourite photos.

Keep watching the competition results  to see the winning photos and to add your comments and congratulations. Hamburger was the winner of the January competition with his photo "Unpopulated."  Your runners up were Peter Cain's picture "Caronia Restaurant Dressed up and ready to serve" and Stowaway2k's picture "Lido the calm between the meals."

March 2016 Photo of the Month Competition

Do you have a winning photo of "Music Aboard QE2"

Music on QE2 gave us a lot of joy whether it was dancing in the Queens Room or at a sail away party or enjoying the entertainment in various venues around the ship.  We are sure that you will have lots of fabulous photos, so why not choose your three favourites and take part in this month's competition.

Isabelle has provided easy instructions to enter the competition on the Photo Competition topic but if you need any help just email: admin@theqe2story.com and we will be only too willing to assist.
The prize this month has been donated by Marc-Antoine Bombail.  It is a stunning poster of Cunard Queens past and present.  Or you may like to choose a jigsaw of your winning photo.

The choice is yours but you need to be in it to win it!

Keep visiting the QE2 story forum and share your QE2 stories

Thank-you for your continued support for the QE2 Story Forum.  We know how special the ship is to everyone onboard the forum and we appreciate the contributions that are made to keep her memory alive.

Best Wishes
