Q4's Keel Laying Ceremony


On Friday 2 July 1965 Lady Aberconway, the wife of John Brown's Chairman, was to perform the keel laying ceremony at 1000 hours. Wonderful photo of the building of QE2 at John Brown's Clydebank. There are many interesting QE2 build photos on the forum you can view. If you have photos taken at the build stage of QE2 please upload them to the forum for all to enjoy.

The QE2 Story, QE2 50 Year Conference will be of significant importance in the 2017 Calendar of Maritime Events. You will have the opportunity to visit Clydebank, the birth place of QE2 to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the launch of the ship.  This is an event not to be missed!

Look out for a special newsletter next month when we will be announcing more details about the fabulous speakers we have lined up for the conference.   We will be starting to take bookings later in the year, so keep watching forum newsletters and topics for details.  Forum members will be given the first opportunity to book tickets before we open the booking process to non members.

May competition results: The winning photo, Peter Hamill's photo "What's in a name" captured painters sitting and standing on planks hung over the side of the ship in Boston in 2001.  

The runner up Cunardqueen tells how he was at the right place at the right time to capture his photo "Keeping the Queen Clean"

July Photo Competition theme -  "QE2 Places in History" 


The subject is open to your interpretation. It can be about places in QE2's history, or about QE2's visits to historic places, or to places at historic moments, or any other interpretation you can give to the theme! QE2 should be visible in your pictures.

There are full instruction in the photo competition topic, so all you need to do is look for your three best photos and upload them to the gallery.
