Ahoy and Seasons Greetings from the QE2 Story Team

As another year draws to a close we would like to thank all our members for helping to keep the memory of QE2 alive.  We hope you enjoy these QE2 Christmas memories.

First Christmas postponed

The QE2 Charity Cruise planned for 23-27 December 1968, was postponed when oil fuel contaminated the feed water system, because of a faulty non-return valve. Not only was this a disappointment for passengers who had paid between120 guineas per person for a cabin on five deck and 800 guineas per two people for a suite, but the charity estimated a loss of £70,000 due to the cancellation.  Read what Michael Gallagher has posted in the QE2's first Christmas postponed topic.

and what a fantastic Christmas message from QE2, her funnel lights back on!

In the QE2 Christmas 1979 topic our member Brian Beaumont was writing a book set onboard QE2 during Christmas 1978/79.  He asked for information on security for embarkation/disembarkation and the ship’s itinerary during 1978/79. Members were happy to help fill in the details.

Although not a Christmas story we could not resist reminding you about the Magic Ride with Anna Bentinck 1969 topic where Rob tells us about this video. Perhaps you have a copy or have seen the film onboard QE2.

It sounds like a real blast from the past with photo shots of a teenage girl arriving at John Brown’s shipyard in Clydebank, boarding and exploring the unfinished ship.  The film editor then cuts to a cruise with some fun shots onboard QE2 and the ship entering New York at the end of her maiden voyage.

Poll for the November Photo Competition

Voting for the November Photo Competition closes on 1 January so why not take a few minutes to enjoy QE2 memories of  Views of and across the foredeck and vote for your three favourite photos.

Keep watching the competition results topic for details of winners. Congratulations to Cunarder Man, the winner of the October competition with his photo "Hi everyone we have made it" John explains in the results topic that on the approach to Dubai in 2008, a number of crew had scaled to the funnel area to get pictures of the Emirates A380 circling the ship and this was one of the photos he had taken that afternoon.

The QE2 Story 2016 Calendar

Again we have two different choices on offer, the Premium and the Standard, details of which are outlined on the Calendar Ordering page. All images used in each calendar are the same, although the choice of cover image is different between the two versions due to the differing formats of the layout. We have simply swapped images so that the cover image of one will be found on the inside pages of the other and vice-versa.  Watch out for discount code offers, which we try to post on the 2016 Calendar topic.

Thank-you Cunardqueen for the photo, we love the QE2 teddy.  Looking forward to seeing more photos of members with their Calendar.

Keep visiting the QE2 story forum for more news

Thank-you for your continued support for the QE2 Story Forum.  We know how special the ship is to everyone onboard the forum and we appreciate the contributions that are made to keep her memory alive.

Best Wishes
