Ahoy from the QE2 Story Team

QE2 Service Life and Timelines

Forum members have been helping to keep the memory of QE2 alive posting 3491 posts in 287 topics in the QE2 Story Service Life (1969-2008) board.

This has built up into a wonderful resource of information about events from the 1970's to her final season.

Within the Service Life board we also have QE2 Timeline Maiden Calls and The QE2 Timeline - month by month  The construction of these timelines were only possible, as a result of members contributing information, which has resulted in an important record of the ship.

Have a look!  Maybe you can add some additional information.

Did you also know that within the QE2 News topic board there is the QE2 in Dubai: Timeline of Key Events 2009 to 2015

QE2's Photography Department

Alan Snelson, QE2 photographer, reminds us of the days before computers, when hand written receipts were used to record sales and an adding machine printed the total ready for George at the Bureau to check.  Woe betide anyone who had used receipts out of sequence or miscalculated the daily takings. Why not add your memories of the QE2 Photography Department to this topic!

QE2's Variable Pitch Propellers

Forum member Highlander 01/08 started the topic on QE2's Variable Pitch Propellers in 2010 and the discussion continues with the recent input this month ( reply 35 onwards). Whether you are technically minded or not you will enjoy learning and contributing to this topic.

QE2 Golf Clubs made from her propellers

The forum is fortunate to have onboard Paul Ableson, the concept man behind the project to turn the 64 tonnes of aluminium manganese bronze into the unique sets of QE2 golf clubs.  Fantastic topic on QE2 Golf Clubs and you can read Paul's amazing story from reply 32 onwards.

Photo competition

Poll for the June Photo Competition

There is still time  to vote for your favourite pictures in the June photo competition "Your final shot of QE2"  Voting numbers are a bit low just now but you can change that by voting for your three favourite photos before the poll closes on 1 August.

Have you entered your photos for the July Photo Competition?

The theme for the July competition is "Cold" giving you an opportunity to upload photos showing your interpretation of what this theme means to you.   Have a look at the instructions on how to enter the competition and upload your photos before the closing date of 31 July.

We really appreciate the donations of prizes and this month you can win "The British Cruise Ship an Illustrated History" by Ian Collard, which was donated by Rob Lightbody.
Alternatively, June Ingram has offered as a prize the jigsaw version of the winning photo.  But you need to "be in it to win it"

Good Luck!
