The days will be getting longer after 5:03 p.m. Sunday in Minneapolis.

"For those of you who don't understand Reaganomics, it's based on the principle that the rich and the poor will get the same amount of ice.  In Reaganomics, however, the poor get all of theirs in winter."

Enough clouds - Where is the sun?

If you are at all like me, I prefer -10 and sunny with blue skies, even if the days are shorter. But, everything is looking up now that the winter solstice is approaching and the days will be getting longer.

As we move in to January and the new year, we always hear suggestions for personal improvement and how to make our life better.  It's time to consider resolutions, or, maybe not.

How many of us are planning to lose weight after the holidays?  Exercise more?  Take better care of ourselves?  How did that work out last year?  My opinion:
  1. be realistic - don't torture yourself by developing resolutions you know that you won't keep; or at least haven't before
  2. life is a journey; it took a long time to get to where we are today
  3. learn something new every day; take a risk, what is there to lose?
  4. everything in moderation, you have all year, and a lifetime
As far as learning something new every day, you may have noticed in my previous posts that I'm on a personal journey making others aware of something I knew nothing about last year.  My new firm focuses on improving the financial future of individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations.  During this journey, I was  amazed to learn two things:
  1. that an incredibly large percentage of life insurance policies lapse, meaning that the face amount is never paid out, and
  2. that a life insurance policy can be sold; that includes all types of policies, including: term life, whole life, universal life, key-man life insurance and any other life insurance written by a US-based insurance company.
Another amazing fact is that there is a secondary market for life insurance policies. Who knew?

It's been exciting to learn about the relationships our firm has built with more than 20 private equity firms competitively bidding on life insurance policies.  These relationships have been developed over 15 years with many firms, some of which you may know, including: Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Berkshire Hathaway, and many more.

As you know, one bid doesn't make a market, but by obtaining up to 20 bids, we provide our customers greater value.  With selling hundreds of millions (face amount) of life insurance policies annually, we provide sellers (individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations) significant proceeds over their cash surrender value.

As you work through your personal financial situation for the coming year, if a life settlement could help you, your clients or family, feel free to contact me to learn more.

I hope that you, your family and friends have a great Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years!  And enjoy the Winter Solstice; days are getting longer again.

In the meantime, enjoy every moment!
