Navigating Your Way to Success with iCompass Compliance Solutions

By Traci Hansen

Alliance NW is less than a month away and Washington PTAC is hard at work to make sure the 2015 event lives up to the title of The Premier Government Contracting Outreach and Training Event in the Pacific Northwest.
Deborah Todd, who attended her first Alliance NW event in 2014, recently sat down with PTAC to share her insights about the value the event provides to the small business community and why YOU should attend.

Todd is President and CEO of iCompass Compliance Solutions LLC, an accounting, regulatory and financial compliance firm dedicated to assisting small businesses and government agencies understand and mitigate financial and compliance risks. “It’s not enough to be an expert in your craft,” says Todd, “you need to make sure  your financial foundation is in order.” As a WBE/SBE/DBE certified CPA Firm, iCompass currently holds two State master contracts as well as a third with the State Auditor’s Office.

Deborah’s goal when she walked into the conference last year was to learn everything she could to take her business to the next level of quality service to help agencies, prime contractors, and small businesses identify & resolve their financial and compliance pain points.

According to Todd, attending an event like Alliance NW is important for small businesses because time is their most valuable asset. Alliance NW provides an information-rich, one-stop learning and networking environment where business owners can get the knowledge & contacts they need to be successful in one value-packed day at a reasonable price.  Says Todd, “where else can you get all this for $115, which, by the way, includes breakfast and lunch too!”

Deborah Todd’s steps for success at Alliance NW and similar events:
  • First, sign up. Remember: today’s the day.
  • Second, really think about your business…what is your gift?  How do you solve your client’s problem?  Why should they choose you over someone else? Be prepared to articulate these thoughts to your prospective customers.
  • Listen to the Preparing for Alliance Webinar and do what it says.
  • Seek help where needed.
  • Network & meet new people.
  • Bring lots of business cards and capabilities statements to hand out (start on these now!)
  • Get rest the night before, it will be an action-packed day, so be ready and alert.
  • The next day….reflect, assess and plan your follow up action steps, then follow up!
When asked what she might tell someone who is on the fence about registering for Alliance NW, Todd remarks “Get off the fence and come to Alliance.  If you are serious about setting your new business up right, getting answers to questions, chatting with fellow small businesses or just finding out what agencies and primes are looking for in 2015 and beyond, Alliance is the place to make it happen.   Miss this opportunity and your competitors may thank you…all the way to the bank.”

Alliance NW will be held on March 5, 2015 at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA. Visit for details and to register.
