Government Contracting Success Delivered!
by: Tiffany Scroggs

The latest trend in shopping is through monthly box subscriptions. Birchbox and Ipsy will send you the latest and greatest beauty supplies and Graze will send you a collection of tasty snacks. No matter your passion, there is likely a box for it. In fact, I recently found a Moss of the Month club where you can get living lichen sent directly to your door!
What’s missing in this new market is a Government Contracting Success Box. Who better to offer this new box, then your local PTAC office? If we did open up this new service, rest assured our loyal newsletter readers would be the first to get boxes! The cost would be free, but the value could be worth millions!

If PTAC could package up Government Contracting Success in a box and send it to you, what would you see when you opened the lid? Let’s explore.

Item 1: A bunch of numbers.  Right when you open the lid, your customized box would include your DUNS Number, CAGE Code, NAICS, PSC Codes, etc. As a bonus, we’d also include a password journal for you to write down your government contracting logins and passwords.

Item 2: A Marketing Strategy.  A sound marketing strategy requires businesses to conduct market research on who buys what they sell, how they buy, and who their competitors are. Only then can a firm focus like a laser on their target market and achieve success. Your PTAC can assist with these market research techniques and support the finalization of your capabilities narrative and online SBA profile, two essential components of an effective marketing strategy.

Item 3: Responsiveness.  When responding to a government solicitation, it is critical to offer exactly what the government is asking for, in the way they are asking it. This also means responding on time. If you submit a bid that fails to conform to the essential requirements of the solicitation, your bid will be rejected.

Item 4: A Federal Acquisition Guide.  The Federal Marketplace can be a confusing and dangerous place. There are penalties for misrepresenting your firm’s size or socio-economic status. There are laws about how much you need to pay your employees. There are rules about teaming and joint ventures and other regulations not found in the private sector. Having a knowledgeable expert by your side, can not only keep your firm out of harms way, but ensure you’re navigating the marketplace effectively. Let your PTAC Counselor be your guide up the sometimes treacherous mountain that is the government marketplace.

Item 5: Daily Email of Solicitations.  PTAC offers a low cost bid matching service that searches over 1600 government website and sends you a daily email of opportunities that match what you do. It’s a major time saver and often uncovers solicitations with governments you wouldn’t think to look for on your own. Call your PTAC or click here to start a free trial. After that, the cost is just $135/year.

Your Washington PTAC is dedicated to ensuring your success in the government marketplace. Boxing up these essential elements to success might be a bit more complicated than packing up beauty supplies or snacks. So, until we figure out these logistics we recommend you meet with your PTAC Counselor at least monthly in person or by phone. Find your local counselor or attend a class at www.washingtonptac.org.
