Dear <<First Name>>
Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31)
When was the last time you changed because of what you read in the Bible? Changed a way you think, or something you do. Perhaps your change in your attitude to others, to yourself, to God. Our life as a Christian is a process as God works in us, through the Holy Spirit, so we become increasingly like Jesus Christ. Much of the time it’s slow, undramatic, often hard to spot change, but over time we can see the fruit of discipleship. To help us to be like Jesus a good question to is what part of Jesus’ teaching (which is the whole Bible) do you struggle to put into practice? When are you most likely to struggle to hold to Jesus’ words? And then ask God to help you hold to that teaching.
The result of doing this is to be free. Freedom is to have abundant life, glorious life. Life knowing you are free, assurance that you belong, security knowing who you are – freedom to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please remember this isn’t a chore. God works in us, God supports us, God helps us.
One of the ways God helps us is when we gather together as a church family. As the Bible is taught we’re encouraged to change, so do join us this week as we look at John 9. We have a visiting preacher, Richard Leadbetter from Kings Church, Guildford.
