Holidays are great, but it's also good to be back. This week my social media has been full of pictures of kids returning to school, the excitement is clear on many of the faces, as well as some apprehension. Regardless of whether we have school aged children September does feel like the start of a new year. This is also true in our church life. Last Sunday felt like we were all back, it felt like we'd had out break, now is the time for our church year to kick off properly.
So, it's great that we're looking at John's Gospel in our sermon series. It's a chance to spend some quality time focusing on Christ. Being a Christian means being a little Christ. So, as a church family, we can think about Jesus, reflect on who he is and what he came to do. And then put our faith into action as we model Christ in our church family and out into our community. Think what difference those amazing words from John 1:14 make to you - "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."
We want to help each other to be increasingly like Jesus in all areas of our lives. One way to help us do that is through events like our upcoming marriage course. All of us who are married need to work hard at them, to keep thinking about how we can be a better spouse. So, I want to encourage all of us who are married to make every effort to come along on the first 3 Tuesdays in October to our "Laugh your way to a better marriage" course we're running in conjunction with the Eton churches. It is a funny course, but much more importantly it is immensely perceptive about the challenges within marriages and how we can better understand each other. Please do let me know you're coming via the RSVP button below.
This is also a brilliant course to invite your non-church married friends too. We want to serve our community and one way to do that is to help marriages flourish. The course is entirely accessible and helpful to all, Christian or not.
For those who aren't going to the course it would be great if you could serve your wider church family by being able to offer to babysit. If you can do that please also let me know via the RSVP button below.
