October 17th 2018: 
World Eradication of Poverty Day
Hosted by the SDG TransLab - Yunus Center AIT, Department of Social Administration Thammasat University, and ATD Fourth World. 
On the United Nations Day for the Eradication of Poverty, founded by ATD Fourth World, The SDG TransLab - Yunus Center AIT, the Department of Social Administration Thammasat University, and ATD invite you, your students and interested colleagues to join them at the Asian Insitute of Technology Campus for an afternoon event on 'All Together Towards Zero Poverty: Understanding Poverty, the Informal Economy, Social Business and the SDGs'.

The event, a free workshop, will be an interactive session from 1pm until 4pm on the 17th October 2018, in the Korea House, AIT. Topics to be covered will include:
  • What is extreme poverty from a multidimensional perspective
  • Frugal innovation, social business and the SDGs
  • Real cases from the informal economy
  • The resilience and adaptability of the poor and the strength of the informal economy
Ms Surangkhana Khanthee, member of the Network of Thai Street vendors for Sustainable Development, will be the keynote speaker, sharing her story as a street vendor and the enabling and disabling factors of her experiences. This will then form the basis for interactive activities for the audience to engage in with.  

The workshop will be faciliated by the SDG TransLab team- content providers from the recently run Bangchak YY Contest; by ATD Fourth World, the founders of World Eradication of Poverty Day; and Professor Narumol Nirathron, a leading expert and campaigner on street vendors and the informal economy in Thailand, from the Department of Social Administration, Thammasat University.

Localizing the SDGs: Training the Trainers Program

The Yunus Center's SDG TransLab will be co-organizing along with Systainability Asia and Adhyeta International from Nepal, in keeping with our Engage, Educate, Empower approach.

Together, we will be conducting a 'Training of Trainers' (ToT) Programme on Localizing Action on the Sustainable Development Goals (i.e. SDGs) from NOVEMBER 19-21, 2018. This training programme will run for 3 days and focus on providing participants with knowledge, tools, methods and network for effectively putting into action the global goals at the sub-national levels. The emphasis will be on integration, inclusive participation and sustainable and self-reliant action through social business, with a strong focus on skills and tools

It will be held in YMCA, the International Hotel Chiang Mai, Thailand. We are charging a minimal fee, which includes  tuition, materials, 3 nights accommodation, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks.  The tuition fee will be USD$375.

Impact Islamabad Conference: Building Bridges, Catalyzing Change

The Impact Islamabad International Conference is a 3-day event hosted by the Social Innovation Lab, Aghaez Professional Services and Philia with the SDG TransLab as a session content provider. The event takes place in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The event will be an open platform for young social entrepreneurs to co-design social business solutions for the SDGs alongside traditional stakeholders, working together. The purpose of the event is to strengthen community linkages, share networks, resources and knowledge amongst social entrepreneurs and traditional actors from international organisations, public and private sectors.

The event, from the 22nd - 24th November, will include two close group mapping and prototyping days with social entrepreneurs from Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and Thailand with other nationalities also potentially joining too. The third day will be an open public conference.

The TransLab extends the invitation to the social entrepreneurs and interested partners, to join this international gathering. The host organisation provides support for accommodation and food, and applicants are responsible for all other costs, including flights and visa.
