Geo-tours, Geo-rambles, Geo-hikes and Geo-adventures in the spectacular North West Highlands, Scotland's First Global Geopark

 
We start the year with a taste of adventure and our Fire and Ice Geo-hike on Saturday 21st February, details below. In March we are running a Geo-what? workshop and a tour for local businesses to explore practical ways the Geopark can help boost business with visits to key attractions. In April our main programme of events commences with a range of tours, walks and experiences for all abilities. We will be using the new NWCBA Geobus for day tours this year in addition to our longer touring weeks. In the summer we will welcome a team of validators from the Global Geopark Network so its set to be a busy 2015.

Saturday 21st February

Winter walking in the Geopark.  Learn about glaciers and landscape formation whilst gaining some winter walking skills with a qualified guide.  Cost: £50 per person with equipment hire, £25 without equipment hire. Thursday 19th March  

Explore the North West Highland Geopark via mini-bus and visit some of the key sites your customers may be interested in. A good opportunity to see some of your key attractions in the company of a local guide and global experts. 

Thursday 26th  March 

Business enterprise workshop exploring some of the practical ways the NWH Geopark can help boost business and support new ideas.  Keynote speaker Kirstin Lemon from the Geological Survey of Ireland who has worked with numerous Geoparks around the world presents geotourism and its financial benefits.  Meet business gateway workers and other residents and find out how your skills could lead to a fresh and successful business idea.

These are week-long courses for those with an interest in Geology.  A chance to visit some of the key geo-sites in the North West Highlands Geopark, taking in Assynt, Achiltibuie, Scourie and Durness. Tickets cost £235 for the week which includes transport.  Accommodation can be arranged with a wide range available in the Geopark.  Early bird discount of 10% applies to bookings made before April 30th June tour)/ July 31st (September tour). A long-weekend festival celebrating the links between wildlife, culture and the landscape.  Join experts in geology, ecology and geo-archaeology as they explore the North West Highlands Geopark.

Geo-kayak Adventures 2015


Saturday 15th – Thursday 20th August

What better way to see the coastal geological outcrops by boat? 
Join Ridgway Adventure and explore the coast-lines of the Northern North West Highlands Geopark by sea-kayak. No experience necessary as instruction can be given.  You will be joined by a Geopark geologist as well as sea-kayak guides from Ridgway Adventure.  Booking essential.  Cost: £900 per person  including full board accommodation and transfer from Inverness. For more details contact Mike Goodwin 01971 521301 mike@nwhgeopark.com

Climbing Rocks!


September 2015
Friday 11th – Sunday 13th 
 
A Climbing Festival in the North West Highland Geopark at Glencanisp Lodge, Lochinver. Come and join in the autumnal festival atmosphere. The weather is often pretty good at this time of year and if not we have plenty of in-door workshops planned.
Why not sign up for ‘Geology for Climbers’ and find out why that particular crag is so grippy? There will be climbing technique, navigation and physio workshops as well as a program of talks on climbing and exploration. On Saturday night we will have a Ceilidh and a Hog Roast so bring your kilt and your dancing feet! Learn about the 500 million year old environment and see some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK. Bring lunch, waterproof and sturdy footwear. Cost: Adults £8, Children £4, Family £20. Monday 11th  Geo-hike
Come and see world famous water-fall Eas a chual aluinn with a Geopark Geo-ranger.  This is the highest water fall in Britain, with over 600ft of cascade but it is one of the wildest landscapes too!  Here’s a chance to explore some wild and rocky country and learn a bit about the formation of the Scottish mountains. Bring lunch. Waterproofs and wellies essential. Meet at the roadside parking bay on the A894 between Skiag bridge and Unapool at 10.30am. Cost: Adults £8, children £4, family £20. Grid ref: NC240291. Thursday 14th  Geo-ramble
A short walk around Loch Eriboll to visit a prehistoric landscape and some of the rocky outcrops which inspired mountain building theory. Booking essential. Meeting place given out at time of booking. Cost: Adults £8, Children £4, family £20.
