Geoparks on the Air

Pentland Firth Radio Hams hosted Geoparks on the Air from the Visit Scotland tourist information centre in Durness on Sunday 24th May with the call sign GB2GEO. It's an annual event and in past years it has been possible to contact Geoparks all over Europe. This year however the atmospherics were against us and though we could hear our friends in the English Riviera Geopark they could not hear us. Our chairman Cllr George Farlow joined the event and heard that apparently when the atmospherics are bad for amateur radio, sunspots and the Northern Lights are active so every cloud really does have a silver lining. Thanks to Kevin Arrowsmith in Durness for helping organise the event, he tells us we're going to try a bigger antenna next year.
