Opening Remarks
Welcome to the June 2018 edition of CfTW e-news.  Please pass this information on to others in your congregation or network or invite them to sign up to the mailing list.  Details can be found at the bottom of this email.  If you no longer wish to be on the circulation list, please unsubscribe at the foot of this email.
This month we are:
  • praising God for the brilliant Week of Prayer that has seen many churches across the town gather together to pray for God’s Kingdom to come in Tunbridge Wells as in heaven.
  • praying for our young people as they take their GCSE and A level exams. 
  • seeking opportunities to share the good news of Jesus with friends through the World Cup Tournament.  
  • trying to sort out GDPA – prayers appreciated!
PLEASE NOTE:  The deadline for items for the July/August e-letter is Monday 18 June.   There will be NO August e-letter so please get any notices for August to me by the deadline above.

June Dates

  • Saturdays 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 June: ‘Men of Prayer 4 Tunbridge Wells’ Prayer Group, 8-9am at The Gatehouse (formerly Calvary Church) in the Market Square. Men from all churches are welcome to come and pray for one another and for the transformation of our town.
  • Tuesday 5 June – Care for the Family offers ‘Connected – Confident Parenting in a Digital Age’ at Tonbridge Baptist Church, Darenth Avenue; 7.30-10.00pm.  As parents, the internet has revolutionised the way we live our lives. Our children, however, have grown up with social media, smartphones and selfies. They are simply a part of their life. So how do we embrace the positive aspects of digital life as a family whilst helping them navigate through the associated dangers, such as bullying, pornography and the pressure for ‘likes’?  We would love to welcome you to this event.  To book, ring 029 2081 0800 or go to 
  • Tuesdays 5, 12, 19, 26 June: Lunchtime services at TW United Reformed Church, 1 Mount Ephraim, TN4 8AE, 12.15-12.45pm.
  • Friday 8 June: The Lounge – Bands, challenges, games and asking questions that matterFor any young people in secondary school; 7.30pm at the Gatehouse, 1 Market Square, TN1 2SW.
  • Tuesday 12 June: Quiet Day at Burrswood.   For more details visit, or ring 01892 865988.  (This is held every second Tuesday of the month.)
  • Friday 15 June: The Burn meets at the Gatehouse for an evening of prayer and worship, 7.30pm–12.30am. 
  • Sunday 17 June: UNITE Youth Service, 7-9pm at TW Christian Fellowship, Hanover Road. Also on 15 July.
  • Wednesday 20 June:  Prayer Meeting for the Persecuted Church, 11.30am–12.30pm at St Augustine’s Church, Crescent Road, TW. This is an ecumenical prayer group which meets on the third Wednesday of every month.
  • Friday 22 June: Silent Space at Burrswood,10am–4pm in the Lady Chapel, for those wanting the opportunity to spend time in Silent Space in beautiful surroundings in order to retreat for a day. £15 per person suggested donation per session.
  • Saturday 23 June: ‘Envision’ – SAT-7 on the Road; St James’ Church; 1-5pm.  See and hear what God is doing in the Middle East and North Africa and how you can be involved.  For more information and to register visit
  • Thursday 28 June – Bible Society’s ‘The Greatest Story Ever Toured’, at Christ Church, TW, 7.30–10pm. Journey through the Bible in this Goliath of a show with Paul Kerensa, a stand-up comedian and script writer and Dr Andrew Ollerton, creator of the Bible Course. They will explain how key events, books and characters fit together. You’ll get to see the Big Picture while discovering how the Bible applies to your life.  Whether you’re a doubting Thomas with a little Bible knowledge, or a theologian with the wisdom of Solomon, you’ll come away knowing more about the drama of Scripture – the greatest story ever told. Cost is £6 and can be purchased by going to the Bible Society website:

Courses & Conferences at Burrswood

Monday 4 to Friday 8 June: Exploring Creativity.  A retreat to discover, explore and develop your creativity using art, word and music. For those with or without ‘an artistic bone in their body’.  £595 per person full board or £245 to attend daily 10am-5pm.
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June: Mindfulness in Christian Life.  Making space for God. A practical course learning to be more present to God, each other and the world around us.  £175 per person includes tuition, meals and one night’s accommodation.
Wednesday 13 June 9.00am–4.00pm: Finola Maynard – Pop up pottery workshop.
Make your own bowl and vessel on the pottery wheel, have some fun designing your own tiles and learning new hand building skills.  £60 per person includes materials, tea, coffee and pastries, a delicious lunch and cream tea.
Saturday 23 June: 9am - 4pm: Kerry Ingham: Drawing for Relaxation. .Choose one session or the other.  Local illustrator and counsellor Kerry Ingham joins Burrswood to explore the art of drawing for fun and inner peace.  £60 per person includes tuition, meals and good company!
Tuesday 31 July: Poetry and Wellbeing Workshop with Charlie Bell, Creativity and Self-fulfilment.  In this second workshop, explore how writing can be used to free up the mind and spirit in order to be creative through writing exercises and discussions. Our theme will be how to use writing as a way of self-fulfilment. This practical workshop is open to writers of all backgrounds, from those taking their first steps to those with much more experience. It may even appeal to health professionals.
