  • sadly, saying goodbye to Giles & Sarah Walter.  Giles has been the Vicar at St John’s Church for 25 years.  Our town has been greatly blessed by their faithful ministry.  Pray for them as they enter this new chapter of retirement in their lives.  Pray also for St John’s as they begin the search for a new vicar.
  • also, saying goodbye to Nigel and Gen Griffiths.  Nigel has been the curate at Christ Church, Southborough for the past 4 years and they will be taking up a new post in Reigate.  Pray for them as they enter this new phase of ministry.
  • praying for all the programmes beginning across the town, ministering to various ages in a variety of ways.  Pray for the love and truth of Jesus to be seen, known and experienced through all we do, through all we are as Christ’s Ambassadors in this town.
PLEASE NOTE:  The deadline for items for the October 2019 e-letter is Monday 16 September.  Please make a note of the deadline and please get information you would like included to me, before that date.  Thank you.

Local Mission Focus - Crosslight Advice (formerly West Kent Debt Advice)

Crosslight Advice is an independent, community-focused charity working to alleviate poverty through the provision of comprehensive debt advice and accessible financial education.  Our vision is centred on the whole person, meeting them at their point of need, and walking the journey with them until they get back on their feet.
We believe that helping individuals out of a crisis is only part of what we are called to do; equally important is helping to equip them with the tools they need to manage their money well so that they can face the future with more confidence and become more
resilient. Our philosophy is also to support clients as best we can to deal with the causes of their financial difficulties.
At Crosslight we have the great privilege of meeting many different people from all walks of life who entrust us with their situations.  We devote a huge amount of time and effort to helping them resolve their difficulties, be that making sure a family facing eviction is able to remain in their home, or ensuring someone has enough money to buy food. It sometimes really is that stark!
When we review our files and receive feedback from clients, there’s one thing that stands out above all else.  The occasions when we’re able to see lives truly transformed are the occasions when we’ve been able to walk alongside someone and join them in the journey.  It’s when the sheer determination of our advisers means that they just didn’t give up; when they held onto someone’s hand and said, ‘I’m with you’.  It is a characteristic that sets Crosslight apart: a desire to look beyond the immediate crisis and play our part in equipping our clients for the future.  But none of this is possible without your support: all those who volunteer, give financially, and support us in so many ways. We are so thankful for your generosity; we cannot do it without you.
What it costs
All the support we provide is completely free which means that we are totally reliant upon the generosity of our supporters. Our forecast expenditure in 2019 is £258,000:
  • £125 pays for an initial advice session with a new client
  • £325 pays for a Money Essentials workshop with a small group
  • £500 trains a volunteer to Case Manager accredited status
  • £850 covers the cost of supporting a vulnerable client with in-depth casework
