Issue 105
April 2017

Welcome...

to the April newsletter from Tomáš Mocek of HiLASE, Czech Republic.

HiLASE is a brand new laser centre in the very heart of Europe that focuses on laser development and hi-tech applications of laser technology. Under one roof we develop in-house a new generation of pulsed diode pumped solid state lasers, as well as sophisticated industrial application stations for laser shock peening, laser-induced damage threshold testing and laser micro-machining.

One of our most recent achievements, together with the Central Laser Facility of STFC, UK, was to create the world record-breaking superlaser “Bivoj”, delivering 1 kW of average power (100 J at 10 Hz). This laser is unique in having such a high average power, and offers new capabilities in laser applications. Another recent success is the start of our 6-year H2020 teaming project, in strategic partnership with STFC. Under the “Widespread Teaming” programme within H2020, this project builds a “Centre of Excellence” for the industrial exploitation of new laser technology.

Being a new member of AILU, HiLASE is looking forward to bringing its technology to the network, with the aim of finding new industrial partners for further developing and applying our super lasers.
